9 Spooky Halloween Party Ideas

Filed Under: BLOG, Halloween, One Word Challenge, Party Ideas Tagged With: Creepy, Halloween, Halloween Party Games, One Word Blog Challenge, Party Food, Party Games, Spooky

If you asked me what my favorite holiday is, I would probably answer Halloween without even blinking or having to give much thought to it. See Halloween is as fun of a day as you can get with all it’s spooky and creepy undertones still even as a mother and an adult. This would include Halloween party games that I have played in the past.

Spooky-creepy-Halloween-Fun

Yet, here we are days out of another Halloween.

And this year Halloween falls on a Tuesday, on a school day nonetheless. But hoping it is still a fun time to celebrate later after school.

Mal-Evie-Disney-Descendants-Costumes

These two are wicked to the core just as Disney’s Descendants’ Mal and Evie

The only drawback is it won’t be a late night with school the following day!

As for celebrating here on my blog for Halloween, I thought I would use this opportunity to share two of my Halloween articles that I have written for the menu suggestions, as well as some Halloween Party Games thanks in part to Tinyprints to help make for the perfect creepy and spooky Halloween party if you are planning on throwing your own this Saturday Halloween night.

What’s for Halloween Dinner?

Mummy Dogs, anyone?!

What’s creepier than Mummy Dogs?

How about a spooky snack??

Halloween Snack Mix anyone?

Super tips, Janine! Halloween is SUCH a big deal for kids, and these are great ways to make the whole event more special! Go enjoy this weekend! 🙂

Aw, thanks so much Meredith and hope you and your family have the best Halloween this weekend, too!! 🙂

I love Halloween, and as you said, with Halloween being on a Saturday, I expect to have a ton of trick-or-treaters… which I love! I put out big mummies, a skeleton, a little ghost that starts howling when it senses noise (i.e. kids approaching)… it is all fun! Going to be a bit nippy here, though, so everyone will need to bundle up. LOVE that opening photo:)

      October 28, 2015 at 7:32 am

I know and truly so excited that Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. Seriously cannot wait and hoping for a fun uninterrupted few hours of trick-or-treating and so much more now! Thanks as always, Seana 😉

Great tips!!! Love the idea of the hot dogs and dessert, I might do that this year with my teens and tween, they will totally know there mom has flipped!

    • Janine says

      October 28, 2015 at 8:18 am

Love that you are going to try this for Halloween and you most certainly have to tell me your kids’ reactions if you do 😉

Australia has only jumped on the halloween bandwagon for the last few years. I can’t say I’m a big fan of children going around and asking strangers for lollies. I think it’s a tradition you have to grow up with – I just find it annoying to remember to buy something to give kids knocking on my door (I’m thinking of going away this Saturday to avoid a day of the door bell ringing!) What’s the equivalent of “bah humbug” for halloween? 🙂

    • Janine says

      October 28, 2015 at 9:11 am

Aw, Leanne I think you make a valid point and if I hadn’t grown up with it wonder if I would have felt differently.

  5. Diane Roark says

    October 28, 2015 at 8:53 am

    Janine,

I love both of these recipes. I have not wrapped the hot dogs in years. They would be perfect this weekend with a big bowl of dirt. My two kids still at home, Caleb and Diana, would have so much fun eating these treats.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Diane

    • Janine says

      October 28, 2015 at 9:13 am

Aw, Diane these are such fun recipes and hope they can indeed try this Halloween weekend!! Hugs to you 😉

  6. Lisa @ The Golden Spoons says

    October 28, 2015 at 9:32 am

My two oldest aren’t planning to trick or treat this year. I was hoping my youngest could do trick or treat at our church tonight and, then, on Halloween, we could just stay in with some creepy snacks and a family movie. However, she’s sick today and won’t be able to do trunk or treat tonight (which might get cancelled anyway because of weather!). ? It’s not my favorite holiday by any means, but it can be fun if nobody is sick!

    • Janine says

      October 28, 2015 at 9:36 am

Lisa, I had Lily sick two years ago on Halloween and was miserable. This year Emma was sick on Sunday night and had her at the doctor just this past Monday. Fingers crossed, your kids and mine will be well this weekend now!!

What a fun mother you are. My mom handed me a pillow case and sent me out the door. LOL You really get into this celebration and I’m very impressed. Have a great Halloween, my friend, and Happy Wednesday.

This is nothing and wait until Christmas comes, as I swear I am a baking freak that just can’t help herself to try to enjoy every moment I can with the girls making all sorts of fun creations! But still love me some Halloween! Happy Wednesday once again and Happy Halloween to you, too!! 😉

Yay, Halloween is almost here! Tomorrow I dress up Eve for the first time this year 🙂 It will be a low-key Halloween since she’s still so young, but I’m looking forward to celebrating with her, and my parents & sister who will be in town also.

    • Janine says

      October 29, 2015 at 7:28 am

    • Janine says

      October 29, 2015 at 10:40 am

  16. Mama G says

    October 29, 2015 at 10:28 am

We’ve just got the Hallowe’en boxes out and gone through the dressing up clothes, I nearly cried at some of the outfits, and how much my ‘baby’ has grown in the last couple of years! I’ve also bagged up lots and lots of sweets ready for the trick or treaters. No party this year, I haven’t been as organised as I’d have liked… always next year eh?

    • Janine says

      October 29, 2015 at 10:41 am

Aw, alway next year for sure and I have not looked through old costumes, but sure I did I would be bawling with how much they have grown here, was well!

  17. Allie says

    October 29, 2015 at 2:26 pm

Okay, your girls look so cute in those costumes! And I love the game ideas. Thank you! Hope you have a happy and safe Halloween.

  18. Dana says

The girls look adorable! And I knew exactly who they were dressed as, because I watched The Descendants with my 17-year-old. 🙂

    • Janine says

      October 29, 2015 at 7:18 pm

Thanks Dana and loved that you and your 17 year old watched The Descendants, too 😉

  19. Leslie says

    October 29, 2015 at 10:41 pm

Halloween is T’s favorite holiday too…mostly just because of the candy. But I’m excited about it being on Saturday too. Definitely planning on making this an all day event. Your dirt pudding looks like a great snack for the day!

    • Janine says

      October 30, 2015 at 12:54 am

Thanks Leslie so much and I know so awesome that it does fall on Saturday this year. Happy Halloween now, too 😉

Those are fun ideas. What kid doesn’t love a good Halloween party?

    • Janine says

      October 30, 2015 at 7:03 am

Aw, thanks Robin and I am totally a big kid at heart with Halloween as I get just as excited, too 😉

  21. Jhanis says

    October 30, 2015 at 10:37 am

The dirt pudding looks like it’s gonna be a hit with the kids! And me too! LOL I love Halloween too but we don’t have that neighborhood trick or treating activity. Very few would participate. My kids go trick or treating either at the office at a resort/hotel/establishment that hold Halloween parties for kids. My kids had a blast earlier at the office. Me? I’m mostly in it for the candy tax. 😀

    • Janine says

      October 30, 2015 at 10:40 am

Jhanis, the candy alone is worthy to me, too!!! 😉

  22. Kristi Campbell says

  26. Michelle | A Dish of Daily Life says

    November 1, 2015 at 5:40 pm

I have to admit, being less than creative Mom, Halloween has never been my favorite holiday. Now that my kids are older, they kind of do their own thing, and I enjoy the little ones that come to the door trick or treating in costume. We get very few these days though…everyone seems to congregate at big Halloween festivities these days. Our downtown does something big and most of the kids head there nowadays, it seems.

    • Janine says

      November 1, 2015 at 6:05 pm

Aw, we don’t get as many trick-or-treaters, but I live on a dead-end so usually that is the reason, but still I love Halloween and just can’t help, but get into it here for my own girls 😉

  27. April says

    November 2, 2015 at 11:18 am

I like Halloween. I used to love it. Not sure what happened, but it’s not. I hope you had fun.

    • Janine says

      November 2, 2015 at 11:19 am

Aw, we did have fun and still just can’t help, but love it here 😉
