LeapFrog LeapPad 3 – Kid’s Educational Games & Learning Tablet Review

Filed Under: BLOG, holiday gift ideas, Kids Posts, Sponsored Posts Tagged With: Holiday Gift Ideas, kids, LeapFrog, LeapPad 3, Learning, Technology

“I received a free LeapFrog LeapPad 3 in order to give my opinions. These opinions expressed here are my own. No other compensation was received.”

We love LeapFrog!

If you read my blog, then you already know exactly how much my family and I just adore the LeapFrog brand by my recent review of the LeapFrog LeapBand.

Well, LeapFrog is at it again here on Confessions of A Mommyaholic.

How you might be asking is LeapFrog at it again?

After, I shared the LeapBand with you, LeapFrog was kind and gracious enough to allow me and my children specifically to receive another package, which included the LeapFrog LeapPad 3 plus five of their award winning, best selling games, as well.

Let me tell you, my kids are getting spoiled and thinking Santa has darn near lost his mind letting them sample and play with some of the amazing hot holiday toys on this year’s kid’s lists all over (trust me – there is still more to come and stay tuned).

See, as shared previously, Emma owns the original LeapPad and Lily the LeapPad 2, but still as awesomely amazing as both those predecessors are to the new LeapPad 3, still the LeapPad 3 is definitely more technologically advanced with now including Wi-Fi to this new, updated kid’s tablet.

LeapPad 3 Game System

We were so excited to receive the LeapFrog LeapPad 3 to play with for this review!

You might also be asking what is so special about the LeapPad 3 tablet?

Well, let me tell all now.

1. Wi-Fi compatible (as stated above)

2.  Compact (travels easily)

3.  Kid Tough (kids can play rough and this one outlasts so much of it)

4.  New Quad-core chip & sleek, beautiful design – for fast action fun for kids

5.  Library of 1000+ age appropriate, educator (including reading, math, science and creativity, too) approved games, ebooks, videos, & more.

6.  Games even though they are educational are kid tested to make sure kids are having fun while learning.

7.  Automatically adjusts the learning experience to each and every child, asking more challenging questions as children’s questions as children’s skills are developed.  And it has recall of this progress for future gaming use.

Extensive LeapFrog LeapPad Library

Yes the LeapPad 3 is unique and definitely a wonderful way for kids to learn, but the gaming experience is the reason for this.

As shared above there are indeed over 1,000+ titles available for kids to use and learn from.

We received five to get to try and review here.

Not going to lie, my kids were shouting from excitement when I showed them each of the titles.

First of all, the games were all pretty much characters, the girls know and love, so they definitely couldn’t decide even which one they wanted to try first.

For me, I was ecstatic that, they were this excited to learn, because LeapFrog is able to utilize these familiar and loved kid’s characters.

LeapPad 3 Games

So many great games for the New LeapFrog LeapPad 3

Which five games did we get?

  • Octonauts –

This one takes the kids on action packed missions again using the recognizable Disney Jr. show to teach science concepts, such ocean/life science, ecosystems, as well as thinking and observing as a scientist would do.

  • Hello Kitty: Sweet Little Shops –

What is not to love about Hello Kitty (the girls have iPad apps with her) and now they were able to learn basic math concepts with the help of Hello Kitty’s Sweet Little Shops, such as tables, graphs, number sense, sorting/classifying with 5 mini-games and 4 activities, too.

  • Disney’s Jake and the Neverland Pirates –

More from Disney Jr (yes the girls love this channel) and also more mathematics adventures including number recognition, geometric shapes, coating, sorting, classifying and solving puzzles all while exploring Never Land to find hidden treasures, secret messages from Peter Pan or even just to watch out for silly Captain Hook.

Playing on the LeapPad 3 Together

Playing on the LeapPad 3 Together

  • Disney’s Sofia the First –

This little Disney Jr princess is a hit with my girls, where Emma dressed up as her for last Halloween and Lily’s 3rd birthday was all Sofia themed.  So, being able to play and go beyond the castle walls with Sofia exploring some old misunderstandings with Enchancia’s neighbors to follow her heart to make amends while learning phonics, vocabulary skills, word recognition, listening skills and reading comprehension was ingenious on LeapFrog’s part to me.

  • LeapFrog’s (very own) Get Ready for Kindergarten –

No familiar characters, but still once the girls heard the word Kindergarten were both intrigued, as Emma loves going to Kindergarten now and Lily is dying to because whatever Emma does Lily has to do.  So, of course, they wanted to play this game, where the LeapFrog characters, Grace, Daniel, Pilar and Chris have their own kindergarten classroom adventures and ended up loving it.  I was overjoyed that they did and definitely pleasantly excited, too that they were learning letter recognition, phonics, handwriting, number recognition, counting, and so much more.  By the way, this game models a day in the life of a kindergartner.  So both my current kindergartner (Emma) could totally relate and my up and coming kindergartner for next year (Lily) and idea what she is in for.

All the above games have been played with multiple times and enjoyed thoroughly by both girls, but I think they (especially Emma) still loved “Get Ready for Kindergarten” the most, as Emma felt right at home being in kindergarten right now and Lily can’t wait to go next year.

So they asked me to share some video footage of them using LeapFrog’s Get Ready for Kindergarten.

I have four video clips of them playing the Get Ready for Kindergarten.

The first is the intro to the actual Get Ready for Kindergarten Game and Reading:

The second video shows the girls playing the alphabet portion with letter recognition (both upper and lower case letters) with phonics:

The third shows, the girls looking at numbers 1-10:

While the fourth video finds the girls looking at numbers 11-20:

So, there you have it, the girls love their new LeapPad 3 and games, too.

By the way, my girls love using the latest technology for learning, as I also showed here and will be discussing more ways in the next few weeks to come how we have used technology for learning purposes here.  So, stay tuned!

What do you think of the LeapPad 3?

Are you getting this for you little one for the upcoming holiday season?

Let me know in the comments!!

This looks incredible! I love Leapfrog products. We have the original Leapsters, and they are getting a little old and worn. I love all the advancements this has made. It’s moving to the top of our Christmas wish list. Thanks Janine for the great review and the videos so we can see it in action!

Oh wow! I thought I was almost done with my Christmas shopping but this looks amazing. I really believe technology can help our little ones learn. Some parents get scared of it but I try to embrace it.

Thanks so much for sharing. I’m seriously considering this now.

    Wishing you a lovely day.

    Wow, Sofia the First!
I was impressed about Wi-fi and about it being kid tough. My kids drop things. I know you probably know what that’s like.
I want one for me, though. Is that weird?
