Summer of 2010 and we had planned on taking Emma for Mommy and Me Swim class lessons. Only problem was three weeks earlier, I had been put on bed-rest for Placenta Previa from my second pregnancy, while I was pregnant with Lily.
Instead of scrapping the whole idea, it was Kevin to the rescue. He happily took over and took my place in the swim class. I was allowed by my doctor to go to the one hours classes once I was cleared off bed rest, but I still was to take it easy. I could sit and take pictures, but was definitely not allowed to actually participate in the class itself.
I must say, Emma had a blast and think Daddy was definitely more fun in this activity then mommy ever would have been. So, as much as my mommy guilt ran high on this one, Emma got the better end of the stick in the end.
And since it is Memorial Day Weekend, this upcoming weekend I thought what better way then to share this experience with the pictures I took from that first swim class experience that Emma had with Kevin in those lessons.
I truly just love looking back as most know and still cannot believe how bald my baby girl was.
Hope you enjoy this collage I put together and Happy Summer to all (well Memorial Day is the unofficial kickoff!).

So sweet! My hubby did all the swim classes with our first one, too…they loved it! :)-Ashley
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks Ashley and happy to hear that we weren't the only ones who had Daddy do the swim classes, too!! 🙂
Elena says
Aw, what a cutie! I have to get my little one into swim lessons ASAP! Her daddy is going to teach her a little this Summer (thank heavens he is a great swimmer unlike me) :o) Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment on my Bull Ride post. You were very nice to guess over a minute, but he stayed on for 44 seconds ;o) It could have been worse (it could have been 16 seconds) :o) Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!
Janine Huldie says
Lol, well I totally tried to be nice and still 44 seconds is definitely not too shabby!! But seriously, awesome that your husband is going to teach your little one and sounds similar to mine, who also loves to swim and is very good at it, too!! 🙂
Bill says
Adorable! My first swim class, age seven, I told the instructor I knew how to swim and then promptly sunk to the bottom of the pool like a rock. LOL Memories…..anyway, have a great day!
Janine Huldie says
Bill, I just got a smile on my face thinking of you as a little boy for sure!! But seriously thank you as always and hope you have a great day, too 🙂
Kat Biggie says
She is so adorable – and all of my kids have been that bald. Poor Tiny still is!!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
I had one of two bald, but poor Emma was bald until she was almost 18 months old, but now she has a long ponytail and she gets so happy when I do her hair for her!! 🙂
Dara says
great flashback post! Gabbie took swim lessons with Dave when she was a baby too! (only she just learned to really swim last summer!)
Kristi - Finding Nin says
We took mommy and me swim lessons as well – Tucker flunked 3 times for not putting his head under water. Great photos – always love your collages. Happy almost memorial day!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks so much Kristi and back then Emma loved putting her head under water, but now she hates getting water in her eyes even at bath time. I recently tried your suggestion by the way and it did help. I have so been meaning to thank you for that. And happy almost memorial day to you, too!! 🙂
Ruchira says
Wow…Emma's first time in the pool and she is all smiles 🙂
She is a natural, Janine.
Beautiful and sentimental captures.
Voted for you 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks so much Ruchira and I know Emma really always has loved the pool from way back. And she is always the first kid in and the last kid out now 🙂
Kera says
Awe! I totally want to do a swim class with Sofia, but we already do music class so I'm not sure the hubs would let me spend money on another thing lol! I love the pictures of Emma and her daddy!
Janine Huldie says
Totally understand Kera and back then it was just swim class. But now we do dance and that is truly so expensive. So believe I can so relate!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Kelly and I had Emma bald until she was almost 18 months old. There is 16 months between her and Lily and I have pics from when I first brought her home with Emma being completely bald still!! 🙂
Lanaya @ Raising Rea says
Yay ~ Rey was in swim lessons at six months old and I absolutely link that to the reason she is such a water baby. I love when parents do swim classes with the youngins … I lost a nephew at the age of four because he didn't know how to swim and it was devestating. One reason I refused to let Reagan learn how to swim with floaties or anything like that.
Touchy subject for me so I'm gonna stop there.

Oh that is so sad and awful. Seriously thank you for sharing and just couldn't even imagine. We were very much of the same minds and wanted to make sure that Emma was comfortable with the water and knew safety, as well. Still have no words and just know I am so sorry that ever happened to your little nephew. xoxo!!
Michelle Nahom says
Oh swim lessons when they were little were so much fun, although I have to say my third one got the short end of the stick…I never took him. (He's a regular fish now though – we are fortunate to have a pool in our yard) My hubby didn't do swim but he always did all sorts of things with the kids when they were little and they loved it!!
Janine Huldie says
Oh they were and still sorry I didn't get to be in the water with her, but she did have a blast with Kevin and I was just so happy that I was allowed to be there and my bed-rest was over at that point, but still just had to be careful. And my husband does a lot with our kids, too. So we are also very fortunate in that respect, Michelle!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Michelle again and truly can't believe how much she has grown!! 🙂
Camille Griffiths says
She was so cute as a bald baby though!!!! Lol.
I still have yet to do swim lessons with our 4 year old. Hopefully we'll do it this summer. We just have to fit it somewhere in between her camp and dance class, lol.
Janine Huldie says
Sounds like you have a lot on your plate for the summer, but hope you do get to fit swim classes in, too. And I know I am prejudice on this, but Emma was such a cutie as a baldie and couldn't agree more. Thanks so much Camille!! 🙂
Tricia says
So cute! The pool is definitely the best way to kick off the unofficial start to summer…in my opinion. Thanks for joining us at Thursday Favorite Things over at Katherine's Corner.
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks Tricia and the pool truly is my favorite way to kick off the unofficial summer for sure!! 🙂 🙂
Break the Jen Mold says
Oh my gosh soooo cute! I loved taking Isaiah to swim class, he had so much fun! Now we can have fun together when we go to…..Hilton Head in TWO WEEKS!
Janine Huldie says
Oh Hilton Head sounds like it is going to be so much fun and can't wait to see pictures from this. And I couldn't agree more about loving that my girls are getting old enough to have tons of fun together in the pool with me!! 🙂
Melissa S. says
We have a couple of water babies on our hands, too, and they prefer swimming with Daddy because he'll go in the deep end, where mommy is too chicken to go, lol. We haven't tried classes, but they're learning pretty well with us. I remember going to YMCA swim classes with my mom in the summer as well. Those are good memories. Thanks for reminding me.
Janine Huldie says
Oh happy to remind you Melissa and my husband sounds similar to yours and is totally the fun one in the pool for sure. And we only did the swim class with Emma and am a bit embarrassed to admit we didn't do it with Lily, but my in-laws have a pool and Kevin has taught much of what he learned in the class with Emma. So, it did work out that way in the end.
