Lone worker apps & emerging tech – What does the future hold?

Filed Under: apps, Technology Tagged With: Apps, Technology Tips

Across the board, workers are the backbone that supports businesses of all kinds. As a result, employee well-being has long been a concern for employers across multiple industries, from construction to accountancy.

As an increasing number of workers carry out their role in a remote capacity, businesses are having to adopt new technologies to help ensure their ongoing safety. The lone worker app is one of the most influential innovations to hit the market in recent years, but what will these apps look like in the future? Let’s take a look.

Lone worker apps & emerging tech - What does the future hold_ Tips

Enhanced remote monitoring

It’s pretty simple – you can’t help protect remote workers if you don’t know what issues they’re facing. As a result, one of the most important elements in this area of technology lies in the development of remote monitoring tools. Currently, lone worker apps are able to use GPS tracking technologies to monitor where employees are, helping to ensure that assistance can be provided should the need arise.

As smartphones and other similar devices continue to become more and more advanced, lone worker apps will be able to detect other things such as changes in biometric data and environmental conditions. This means that employers can have a better picture of the circumstances remote workers are in, allowing for the prevention of potentially disastrous events.

AI predictions

As artificial intelligence and other advanced forms of predictive analytics continue to develop beyond what we thought was possible, we’ll likely start to see those technologies integrated into lone worker apps.

Predictive analytical tools can take a quick look at vast quantities of data, both current and historical, and identify potential risks in the workplace with impressive accuracy. Based on these predictions, workers can make an informed decision about the kinds of risks they’re willing to take.

Natural language processing

Natural language processing (or NLP), a sub-branch of AI, is also going to dictate the future of lone worker apps to a certain degree. When integrated into these apps, NLP can provide lone workers with instant answers to complex questions, at the kind of speed that would otherwise require each worker to have their own human assistant.

Obviously, some situations will still require the help of another person; in these scenarios, the app will be able to connect the worker with a human operator, who can take over control of the situation and arrange for the appropriate assistance to be provided.

Incident management system integration

Finally, lone worker safety technologies such as lone worker apps only work well when integrated into a central management system. As technologies such as AI continue to advance, we’ll see these central systems become increasingly streamlined, facilitating seamless communication between relevant parties.

These systems ensure that all events and communications are logged in line with regulations while prioritizing emergencies over routine and non-urgent communications. The result in terms of worker safety will hopefully be significant, making a wide range of industries much safer.

Emerging technologies mean that the future of lone worker safety looks bright. From AI being able to predict incidents before they occur, to advanced central management systems that mean workers can get the help they need, it’s vital that all organizations leverage the safety solutions available to them.

For organizations looking to enhance worker safety and efficiency in the logistics industry, it’s essential to explore the guide on logistics app development. This comprehensive resource provides valuable insights into developing innovative solutions tailored to the unique challenges of the logistics sector.
