Sitting here in the dark with no lights nor electricity.
Right when I was about to sit down to type up an article for today, we heard a popping noise and then our power went out.
Sad, but true that I can’t live without the internet and my computer for the sheer fact of the matter that I use so much of this for my work all day long.
I can totally live without it, but still just more of a hassle if you ask me.

This Was Outside My House This Past Thursday – We Lost Power for Over 18 Hours Due to High Winds with Poles and Trees Going Down
Anyway, what I wanted to share was this hilarious video that was actually messaged to me earlier yesterday morning by my own mother.
The video was of this 88 year old woman dancing down her front steps to get to (I believe her granddaughter’s car) Dion’s Runaround Sue.
This lady reminded my mom of one of my great aunt’s who had a similar sense of humor and once I saw the video I couldn’t agree more, too.
In fact, my great aunt was always cracking jokes and usually the life of the party.
At one party when I was younger, she took two sticky gift bows and placed one over each of her breasts (fully dressed of course, it wasn’t that type of party) and proceeded to tell us smiling from ear to eat that now this was a party!
And also at most family weddings, she could also always be found leading the conga line and dancing it up with the best of them.
By the way, my aunt also definitely had a mouth like a sailor, but was never used in vain just to keep us on our toes a bit just like the lady in the video seemed to have, too.
So, when I viewed this video, I immediately could see my aunt as clear as day in front of me and she would have been the first to do dance her way to the car and put on a show for all the neighborhood to see with not so much a care in the world as to what anyone thought, while all the while enjoying herself to the fullest while doing this.
In case you were wondering, she had told me right after I got engaged to to Kevin, that when we did get married, that she would be definitely be leading the conga line that night.
Ironically, she never made it to our wedding passing away of terminal cancer days before we actually got married.
I still think of her quite often though still and I am quite sure that she was smiling down today as I was watching this video and remembering her, as well dancing just a bit, too!
If nothing else, she got that the last, laugh with us being without power for almost 24 hours! And yet this video totally gave me a laugh when I indeed needed it.
Now, enjoy this funny video I have been referencing her today below (make sure to listen all the way until the end, too-trust me you won’t be disappointed!):

Hey! I'm the first to comment? No way!! Too funny this lady. So sorry you had to be without power. That had to be tough. I know you use your computer for so much!

Aww, thanks Brittnei and it was so frustrating. I had to remind myself that it was just the computer and would be there when it returned, but I guess how much I use it daily made it that much harder for me. And I know that lady was too funny an had to share 🙂

I get so frustrated when we lose power! Luckily for us, my in laws are on a different line, and usually if they lose it, we don't or vice versa. The strange thing is my in laws live on one side of us and then we have neighbors across the street. They are on a different line too!
My recent post The Non-Designers Guide to Graphic Design
Janine Huldie says
My neighbors at the beginning of the block on both sides of the street are also on different lines on the main road actually, but we are on the line with the rest of the neighbors on our block and usually always the first to lose power. Like you though I thank god my in-laws are five minutes down the road and usually do have power when we don’t.
Rea Alducente says
18 hours! Whoa, I can't start to imagine how that could be. In my hometown, there was one season where we didn't have power most of the time but it'd last for 3-5 hours only but it happened everyday. Inconvenient I know especially for people relying on it to earn a living.
Anyway, it's so nice reminiscing your aunt's life through that video! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
That is rough and not going to lie not sure I could do without power that often. And I loved being able to reminisce a bit with that video though 🙂
massholemommy says
Oh man, that is a long time, but I feel your pain. When we had that blizzard Nemo in 2013, we lost power for almost 24 hours – in the middle of winter. We had no heat and it was BRUTAL.

Ok, that would have made me cry no heat in the dead of the winter. I thought Sandy was rough as it was late fall and just turing cold. As you can tell, I need my heat when it is cold or I am a grumpy, Janine at best lol! 😉

Your great aunt sounds like…me. LOL I'm the silly one who says what everyone else is usually thinking and definitely have a potty mouth! Love that video.

Awww Janine, that gave me goosebumps. I had an aunt like that. She was the life of the party. She died way before I got married though. I loved her spunk. I don't know anyone in the family like her. She never had any kids so she was definitely the fun aunt – a total rule breaker. Her house had junk food and breakable stuff and she didn't care if we ate it or broke something.

Kenya, other then that not having kids part (my sun had two boys and also grandkids, as well as great-grandkids before you passed away, too), your aunt and mine could have been twins, because mine was always the life of the party. She was grandmother's sister and my grandmother was definitely the more serious of the two, so much so that she would tell us very seriously when we would joke that we had the wrong sister!! 😉

Janine,
That is the funnest video. I LOVED IT!! You made my day. Maybe, there is hope for me to have a good time when I am older.
Blessings,

I am so sorry about the powder outage. I pray the horrible weather is not making it your way.
Janine Huldie says
Diane, I truly hope to be half as fun as this when I am older and right now it is rainy and chilly here just hope for no more winds. Spring and Mother Nature seem to be asleep at wheel right now!!
karenssoiree says
That stinks about the power going out! I know I am a lost soul without electricity. Are you on Long Island?? I live in western Suffolk county and the weather has been so dreary. Where did spring go? That is such a cute video you posted, it reminds me of my spunky grandma. I miss her too.

Sorry about your amazing great aunt but from how you describe her, she didn't waste a second of her life and hopefully passed with no regrets.
Janine Huldie says
I think so Lisa, but she was also always worrying about death when she was younger, so I hope she was truly at peace when she did indeed leave us.

1. That woman is my first senior crush.
2. If we're lucky, we'll become that aunt or uncle when we're that age, Janine.
3. Aunts and uncles like yours? They live on through us. Don't resist that urge to dance, break stuff or use the F word.

I had seen the video before and it is hilarious. Sorry about your power….we have had a trouble-free winter…and spring….crossing my fingers and knocking on wood now that I said that. 🙂 Have a great day, Janine.

Bill, my Aunt Gloria said she aw this video before, too, but was a first for me. Just made me happy and smile, so couldn't resting passing it on here. Have wonderful Wednesday now!! 🙂
realhousewife says
The video was so cute! I needed a good laugh too so TY!
I didn't get any of the storms or bad weather here…it missed us! I'd go nuts without power…but my BIL has a generator so I'd just make him go get it and hook it üp:) I'm a man with a plan! Lol
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Kelly we have a generator and it is all set to go, but my dad hadn't gotten around to getting a box to have it stored in outside, so it was still in the garage where the doors are electric and couldn't get it out. He truly thought we had made it through the crazy winter and how wrong we all were apparently. But I too needed the laugh and just so happy to share it here today 🙂

Tamara, trust me I was so emotional that she got so sick the year preceding our wedding. She had gotten a bit better to make it to my bridal shower, but within in the two months after that she took a turn for the worse and that was it. They actually had her wake and burial while I was on my honeymoon. I was so guilty about that, but everyone told me she would want me to go and enjoy it for her, because she always did live life to the fullest. Hugs and love you Tamara!! 🙂

You know it's not going to be a crappy day when the power went out yet you can still find something brilliant to share and laugh about. I don't think I could do that, lol! 🙂 The power went out twice last week for 5 minutes on two days around 9.30am and it threw me off my entire day. Thankfully things seem to be back to normal again for both of us. Have a stunning day my friend! x

We lost power for over 2 days during Hurricane Sandy, but in-laws down the road were out for over a week, too. We hosted them for dinner and more for many of this nights and days, too. So, this wasn’t nearly as bad, but still so not a fan of losing power now. Just so glad though that I could share this video for a few laughs here today though 🙂

How cute is this old lady. I love her. Loosing power does suck. We never loose power where we live because we live right next to a telephone company sub station. We had a huge freak storm a few years back that took out power in our whole town & surrounding cities. We took in boarders for a while so that they could shower and stuff.
Janine Huldie says
I need to live near you, because I only wish we never lost power. This wasn't the worst time, but still I am starting to lose count now sadly!

That video was so fun – that little lady had some moves. I loved the end when a new song started and she wanted to dance again!

I know Kim, I loved both songs, too – so that was also a bonus to this video. Thank you though and just was such a weird feeling losing her that close to our wedding especially since she always promised to head the conga line. But still just glad she wasn't suffering anymore. So, it was very much bittersweet.

I have watched this video about 8 times (I had seen it before, I didn't spend that much time just this AM, but I did watch it again – I can't help myself!) I love it. Every single time I think – I hope I'm that joyful when I'm that age…she has trouble walking down the stairs but stops to dance – because she has to! And the last comment always makes me laugh. What a great thing to have something so fun remind you of your aunt, she must have been a great lady and would probably love knowing that this makes you think of her.
