Might Just Find You Get What You Need, Peeps!

No one could put this better then Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones.

I am a huge music fan and shared some of my favorites here and do happen to also be a Stones fan and was just listening some of their greatest hits in my iTunes the other day, when I had something interesting happen to me that I couldn’t, of course, feel the need to share here.

I actually all started with me seeing a picture on my Instagram feed.

Indeed spring and almost Easter time here with all things floral, bunnies and chicks being displayed everywhere you look and turn.

I happened upon a picture of donuts from Dunkin Donuts that clearly had Peeps (the marshmallow candy) on them.

We all know how much I love Peeps from my Peeps recipe article from last year here.

And now both my girls adore these heavenly marshmallow treats.

So, I might have mentioned it to them and bribed them with cleaning up the toy disaster that I spoke about here for a few of these delightful donuts.

Early in the morning before they got up went to get donuts before Kevin went to work.

I asked the cashier for a half dozen Peeps donuts at out local Dunkin Donuts.  I had to go to the one south of us, because the one north of us was indeed in the infamous shopping center that was caught in the fire that took place last week and shared all about here last week.

Trying to be quick, I didn’t actually see the girl put the donuts in the box before she sealed it.

So, I took off with my donuts and headed home.  Once I got home, I found my donuts, looked like the Peeps donuts minus having a Peep on top of them.  In essence, they were donuts decorated in spring, pastel colors, but no Peep in the middle as advertised.

My girls kept asking, “Where are the Peeps?”

Totally confused, I took to my iPad and did a Google search to find out that yes they should definitely have a Peep in the middle of them.  Here is the actual press release with downloadable pictures at the bottom.

While on the official Dunkin Donuts website, I saw a phone number for customer service. My nana’s voice echoed in my head and would have been proud what I did next.

See my grandmother always would tell us to call and complain if we spent our hard earned money and didn’t get what we were supposed to get.

I did just that and phoned Dunkin Donuts customer service headquarters.  The representative picked up immediately and assured me they definitely should have Peeps on them and when I explained that they were for my two little girls ages 3 and 4, she was truly apologetic.  I was told, she would get in touch with the manager of the store I frequented and he would be in touch with me in 2 – 4 business days.

No sooner then I hung up, then my phone rang.  It was the manager of the store and he was even nicer then the customer service representative.  He couldn’t stop apologizing to me and actually thanked me.

He apparently is the manager for both the store I went to and the one just north of us effected by the fire.  At the time, I was there, he was at the other store dealing with the insurance agent for damages that incurred from the fire.

He actually told me he thought it might of been his fault, because of all going on with the fire, he may have forgotten to mention to his staff to place the Peeps on top before the donuts get boxed up.

Bottom line, he told me to come in and would give me six new donuts with Peeps on them for my girls and anything I wanted, too.

On both calls, I was extremely polite and made sure to just explain how I hate to complain, but felt bad as my girls were expecting Peeps to be on their donuts.  And both the customer service representative and the manager were more then amenable, as well as understanding to my donut plight with my two little girls.

When I did get back to the store to get the donuts put aside for me, I took the donuts happily and my dad took the ride with me was given a  free iced coffee, too.

By the way, we do indeed go to Dunkin Donuts often enough and must admit was truly impressed with the way I was treated by corporate, the store manager and even the cashier upon my return.

Definitely will keep going back to Dunkin Donuts now more then ever knowing that the store is run now only at the corporate level, but at the local level, too by compassionate individuals.  Nice to know that there are still nice people out there running the show so to speak.

And must also again share my nana was definitely right about how to handle mixups such as these, as well as Mick Jagger being right that you may just indeed find what you need anyways!

    Those look truly delicious! Now you've got me craving doughnuts… can't even remember the last time I had one. Funny you should talk about complaining, because I did that this weekend too. I found a piece of plastic in my wrap on Friday afternoon. The manager was also so apologetic and I got a refund and free wrap. Hate complaining, but how else will they know that something is wrong? Hope you've had a great start to your Monday 🙂

      I love that you too just complained this weekend. I seriously hate being that person, but when I saw how disappointed my girls wereI just couldn't help but open my mouth up. And sorry for the donuts craving, but trust me these are truly hard to resist. Happy Monday to you, too!! 🙂

    First, the doughnuts are adorable. I can understand being let down if you were expecting Peeps. Good for Dunkin' Donuts to handle the situation so effectively. Sometimes that is the best PR a firm can get, and it definitely creates a loyal following. Now I need to check these out myself!

    This is a perfect example of how all businesses should be run. It doesn't take any more effort than running a business poorly – and look how satisfied you were with the outcome! I'm not a peeps or a donut fan, but my son would inhale these!

    You followed up on it but you were extremely polite….good for you. I like the polite approach. It usually gets much better results than rudeness. Thanks for sharing that, Janine. I'll eat the donuts and you can keep the peeps. Perfect deal if you ask me.

      Bill, I truly couldn't be any other way and my mom literally ingrained this in me from a young again that you will always indeed catch more flies with honey. So, I have good old mom to thank for that. Have a wonderful Monday once again, too!! 🙂

    It is so irritating to get home and realize your bag doesn't have what it's supposed to! Especially with little girls who do not understand customer service mishaps:) lol. You handled it perfectly and I hope the girls enjoyed their peeps!

    I've totally bought those for Scarlet twice this week! And yes, a Peep was on top. However they do fall off! So the box would most likely have six donuts and six separate peeps, if the car ride was too jostly!
    Dunkin messed up MY order three times in a row last week. I think I need to tell corporate too! Only because it can be dangerous for people if they don't heed the decaf orders.

    So glad that you called (and made your grandma proud!) and that you received such excellent customer service. Lately I’ve had several negative issues with places and customer service – it is almost a lost art and I hate that.
    The donuts are cute – hope your girls loved them!

    I bet you were crushed when you got donuts without peeps! I am so glad to hear you took the effort to make that phone call and really pleased with the great customer service you received. Well done for you and for the store for making up for the mistake!

      Thanks Christy and I seriously was so pleased with the customer service and truly can’t enough kind words about how wonderful they were. And the donuts are pretty damn good, too 🙂

    I am actually not a Dunkin Donuts fan at all .. and peeps, well, they are just there. I haven't had one in years. Maybe I'll try them again this Easter and see if I can change my opinion of them. LOL
    Still .. now I want a donut! Dammit!!!!!

    Janine,

    You encouraged me to speak up more. So, many times I have been disappointed by a product and I said nothing. I am slowly changing this. If f I am disappointed then the company must be disappointing other people too. I think by speaking up we will all be helping others not get the same experience. I am glad it all worked out. My Caleb would love these doughnuts. I might have to get some soon.

      Hope you do get these for Caleb and I have to say sometimes, I too have kept my mouth closed and not spoke up, but this proved to me that when I need to and should that some good can definitely come from it. Just happy to be able to share 🙂

    now that is customer service done right! I always speak up, you never know if a company truly forgot something or if they are changing their policy.

    I actually can't stand peeps…I prefer chocolate and even limit what Dino and I eat. Of course Dino would eat them up in a heartbeat if presented with these.

      Karen, I am so with you on customer service done right and this was a fine example of it. As for Peeps, I have a slight addiction to them and try my best not to buy them every time I see them in the store, because I seriously could eat whole package by myself (and have done so in the past). I know that is so bad, but just can't help myself ,lol!! 🙂

    I love it when customer service gets it RIGHT!!! I was JUST out to dinner with my best friend from college last night- and one of our meals (we were sharing) came and looked pathetic! Hardly any vegies on the dish- when it was supposed to have broccoli and mushrooms- our faves! the manager came around to ask how everything was, I told her about the dish. (I always tell- either good or bad- I am one that will go out of my way for those who work hard, and those that don't) She immediately apologized and said that dish would be on the house.

    THIS is why i will go back to that restaurant again and again. BRAVO to Dunkin Donuts too!!!

      I would totally go back to that restaurant, too. And Chris just more we have in common, because I feel if it needs to be said that I truly can't help, but say it. And also very much with you on when companies, such as this get customer service right, truly does make all the difference!! 🙂

    I love donuts but don't like Peeps. I never have. Does this make me strange, because I don't think I know of anyone else who doesn't like Peeps?!? I'm glad you got the girls their donuts and I totally agree with Nana. If you pay for something, you should get what you paid for. Good for you!
