Summer is indeed here and in full swing for us all.
I recently share here how I have had to Let It Go with having the girls home all summer long and also adding Elsa, our golden retriever puppy to the mix, too.
On any given day, I can only get so much work done around here, before my girls are bored and looking for some fun activities to do. But, we can’t afford day camp for two little girls right now, nor can I afford to take them different types of places or leave the puppy for too long either.
So, I have had to get creative. Yes, Pinterest does help, but mind you I am not the craftiest or most artistic mom in town.
So, when I was e-mailed about Mommy Summer Camp, I was thrilled to take a better look at it and share more about this here today with all my readers.
You may be asking, what is Mommy Summer Camp?
Mommy Summer Camp is an e-book started in 2011 when as a busy working mom with both a corporate job and a small business had Summer fast approaching and wasn’t sure what they could do?
So, one Saturday as her kids were complaining about something…not wanting to do whatever chore they were supposed to be doing…inspiration hit. She sat down and outlined her idea for a stay at home, Mommy Summer Camp where the kids earned, “mommy bucks” in order to attend camp by doing chores, being nice and various other good deeds.
It became so popular other moms asked her how she ran it, so here is everything she came up. Over the years I’ve refined the program and created a custom camp that you can use too!
Once you purchase you will receive nine (9) flies, five of which are 100% editable in word format that you can use your own activities, children’s names, etc (including the e-book).
The nine Mommy Summer Camp files are:
1. Mommy bucks template
2. Mommy Summer Camp template
3. Mommy Summer Camp Activities for Kids
4. Mommy Summer Camp Journal
5. Mommy Summer Camp Catalog for Kids
6. Mommy Summer Camp Recipes
7. Mommy Summer Camp Sticker template
8. Mommy Summer Camp weekly checklist template
9. Read Me First – How to Run Mommy Summer Camp a step by step guide
10. Mommy Summer Camp eBook – this 142 page book goes into a bit more detail how I started Mommy Summer Camp and how I used the templates. It combines some of the above into one easy to read ebook.

Am I the first to comment? No way! I voted at the SAHM link for you! 🙂 This sounds like the perfect idea, Janine. I actually wouldn’t mind something like this as well. Sometimes the crafts require us to buy a lot of stuff. 🙂 I do need to go through this one I found for 2 year olds specifically that could be really fun for JR. 🙂

I love when moms take matters into their own hands and get creative like this!! Right now, I’m happy to say my kids ARE in day camp, but it’s only because I’m working part-time. Booooo!!!
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
We are always looking for things to do, so this would be perfect for me. Thanks for sharing.

Teachers ought to give out that guide on the last day of school, don’t you think?
And thanks for the post love, and for lending us your wildebeests for the day!

Janine, I raised a boy on my own, and I can’t imagine raising two little girls….you have my utmost respect, but then you already knew that, right? 🙂 Have a great day.

Mommy summer camp sounds fun. Sometimes I wish I had the summer home with my kids, but we’d probably drive each other bonkers within the first week! We are enjoying their variety of summer camps and I’m enjoying my half days this summer. That’s pretty close to perfect for us!
becka says

Janine,
I love books that give practical suggestions to do with your kids. Thanks so much for sharing! I also love seeing your sweet girls and Elsa. Elsa looks like she gets plenty of love. She is loving sitting in your lap like a big baby. Precious.
Blessings,
sharing

Um…HOW AWESOME IS THIS?!?! SO AWESOME!!
I only wish I’d known about this book earlier in the summer! I need to download this immediately. (If I can get my kids earning mommy bucks for being nice to each other or putting dishes away, my life will be MADE I tell you! WOOT!!) –Lisa

A coffee lover who also loves tea? Sold!! 🙂 I feel the same, though people tell me i have to pick and choose (phft). 😉
Thanks for sharing the book, Janine. 🙂

I feel like there are days when I could do with a teen version of that – this summer I have struggled to spend very much time with the boys. I have been trying to make sure that the time we do have is about quality so hopefully that has helped.
Alison says
Ooh, this sounds like a great idea, and so fun!
Voted for you!
Cathy Chester says

See, I would need something like this if I were home all day during the summer with my boys. I’m creative, but a kit is nice to have. Let’s hope summer sticks around for a while longer!
Amanda @ Growing Up Madison says
Oh Janine, I so want this book. It’s so hard for me finding things to do here in CO and I’m sure I can think of things but just to lazy and tired most days. This will surely give me some ideas. What’s funny is that I never had that problem in NY. Time for me to move back. 🙂
Tamara says
So awesome! August is just a clean slate for us right now. We need some mommy summer camp!
Becca says
This is a really awesome idea. A family friend of ours did a little camp at home with their kids and their nieces and nephews, and the kids had a blast at their own private summer camp!
Your puppy is adorable. If you lived in Santa Barbara I would offer to watch her! 🙂

I love this, too, Janine, and am definitely going to check it out. This summer has been one where I’ve been paying sitters and tutors and camps and then, feeling jealous that they all get to do so much fun stuff with Tucker. At his Math and Science camp, they did this thing where they took a 2-liter bottle, filled it partially with water, and then launched it as a rocket after pumping air into it. Tucker’s went like 65 feet in the air and he was SO proud! I was all “I could do this!” because yeah, some of the stuff to do on Pinterest is expensive and never turns out like I’d hoped. Thanks so much and OMG can you believe it’s August tomorrow???

My vote is in for today. This Mommy day camp idea sounds like a good one. Your girls seems to do well occupying themselves and I know you and Kevin try to do fun things with them. It was wonderful to see you all today and spend time together. xxxxoooo

You bet…..I’ve been trying to get a vote in every day.

Oh my god, Janine. Congrats on your nomination. How wonderful. I clicked the badge & I feel stupid asking, but how do I vote. LOl! I found you in the list of 50 & it clicks back to you. Is that a vote? Help. I will vote for you everyday.

Since our son has been away from daycare in Jan., I’ve had to come up with things for him to do with the Au pair. It certainly helps her but she also runs out of things and I’m losing steam spending every Sun evening coming up with lesson plans. I don’t know how teachers do this! I’m going to check out the customizable and printable e-book because I still have to type-up things I read in books having files is soo much easier! Thanks!
Nellie @ Brooklyn Active Mama says
I love this idea of mommy summer camp!! I voted and girl I hear let it go every.single.day. Hourly almost! I feel your pain!!
