“I need you in my house cuz you’re my home…”
Over the years, I have had my fair share of favorite songs. Plus, I even recently admitted one of my all-time favorites was November Rain, by Guns N’ Roses.
This song still brings me back to high school and a troubled relationship.
But thankfully, better relationships and times have prevailed for me.
At this point in my life, I am married for almost 12 years. No relationship is perfect. Still ours is not a teenage romance cliche. But ours is a grown up adult relationship that has evolved as the years have gone by. Don’t get me wrong. We have had ups and downs. Again though our marriage has remained and become stronger over the years.

I can’t help, but think of our marriage as “My Home”. It might be a bit worn. But it is cozy and fits me just right. So, my guy is my home through and through. Plus, our kids now complete our home in every sense of the word.
Makes sense that when I hear Billy Joel’s, You’re My Home, I think only of my husband.
Also, I have always been a Billy Joel fan. But it was my husband who first introduced me to this classic Billy Joel song. Therefore, it was also a song we made sure to dance to at our wedding. The reason for choosing this song was not only, because it was indeed Billy Joel. But the lyrics truly spoke to both of us. The song simply was and still is everything that was good and pure about our relationship.
Many years later. it doesn’t matter where we end up in this life. See as long as we have one another, I know in my heart that everything will be Ok.
Still yet when I hear this song even now, I am transported back to our wedding night. This was and still is one of the best nights of my life. And quite possibly the perfect song to define our relationship then and now, too.
Aren’t familiar with You’re My Home? Then see the lyrics below Youtube video below to hear it for yourself:
You’re My Home Lyrics, by Billy Joel
When you look into my eyes
and you see the crazy gypsy in my soul
it always comes as a surprise
when i feel my withered roots begin to grow
well i never had a place
that I could call my very own
but that’s all right my love
cuz you’re my home.
when you touch my weary head
and you tell me everything will be all right
You say use my body for your bed
and my love will keep you warm throughout the night
well i’ll never be a stranger
and i’ll never be alone
wherever we’re together
that’s my home.
Home could be the Pennsylvania turnpike
Indiana’s early morning dew
high up in the hills of California
home is just another word for you
Well I never had a place that i could call my very own
but that’s all right my love cuz you’re my home
If i travel all my life
and i never get stop and settle down
long as i have you by my side
there’s a roof above and good walls all around
you’re my castle, you’re my cabin
and my instant pleasure dome
i need you in my house
cuz you’re my home,..
you’re my home.

I’m sorry I missed your posting Wednesday. It is impossible for me to do the Market that day and then catch up on an entire day of messages, so I choose to just pretend that day didn’t happen on the internet. I feel bad about missing postings from friends like you.
Anyway, have a beautiful weekend. Spring finally arrived here and it is glorious!
Janine says
Omg, Bill please never, ever feel that way. We all need a day here and there – I totally get it. You seriously are an awesome friend and just thank you always for that. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the spring-like weather now, too 🙂

I don’t really think I’ve paid much attention to the lyrics of the song, but it does bring back sweet memories. I have to agree that your marriage is like a home and while no marriage is perfect, those ups and downs do make it stronger, and yours is as strong as can be. Here’s to many more years.
Janine says
Aw, thanks AnnMarie and here is to many more years for us both, too!! 🙂

I love the song “Home” by Duncan Sheik. Home really is where your loved ones area. Where you can relax and be yourself without fear of recrimination or judgment. That said, whenever I travel internationally, I get a wave of patriotic longing for the USA… so that is another “home” for me!
Janine says
Believe it or not, I am not really familiar with that song. But now going to have to check it out. And love your idea of home, too 🙂
