“Dad said that you have a problem with Rae Dunn.” This statement was stated by my older daughter one recent morning before getting on the bus about my Rae Dunn Holiday Hunting habits.
So, I confessed to her that I did indeed enjoy collecting Rae Dunn, especially the holiday pieces. But I also stressed that for me it is fun and a hobby. But I will confess here furthermore that I got the Rae Dunn bug or fever. As I guess I just can’t get enough of it.
While I am still a relative newbie collecting Rae Dunn as I have only been collecting for about 6 months or so now. I am learning quickly what I do and don’t like by Rae Dunn. Furthermore, I started collecting during a quieter time for Rae Dunn items. I mean birdhouses were at the tail-end for the spring season. And the holiday season was way back in the rearview.
[Tweet “Are you hunting for Rae Dunn for the holiday season? Then, check out these 5 tips to help you score those HTF pieces now!”]
But here we are now smack dab in the first major holiday Fall and Halloween-time for Rae Dunn decor. Plus, Christmas is also starting to creep into view, too. Moreover, seasonally appropriate birdhouses for Rae Dunn are at its height, as well. So, this collecting thing got that much more real in the last few weeks.
That all said, I have gotten pretty lucky up to this point finding multiple hard-to-find (HTF) holiday pieces, including multiple holiday birdhouses. So much so, that a recent local collector commented at such when I was trying to trade some pieces for other Rae Dunn items I was searching.
So, how have I gotten so lucky? Find out below now.
5 Rae Dunn Holiday Hunting Tips to Score HTF Items
1. Learn your stores overall stock routine pattern.
If you have a local Homegoods, Marshalls or TJ Maxx that carry Rae Dunn, try to find out during the week, as well as hours when they put out new items that come in. Sometimes, I admit there is no rhyme or reason. But often there is a pattern as to when they unload the trucks and stock the shelves. It helps if you have some knowledge of this.
2. Talk to friendly employees that can help you find out more.
OK, so I am friendly and outgoing by nature. But when I am hunting for Rae Dunn, I tend to get a bit nervous that employees may think I am that crazy Rae Dunn hunter. I am not. But I know what I like and am hopeful I will find it.
That said, I have befriended at least one employee locally. Honestly, there are some nice people out there who work in these stores and happy when I can get to know them, as well. Plus, the friendly employees usually will tell me what has come in that I may or may not be looking for, too.
3. Scan shelves more than once.
I cannot tell you how many times I have missed something at first glance. So, I will always look twice on the shelves as many Rae Dunn items are right under my nose and missed upon first look. Also, many times items are put down in weird spots or even hidden. So, looking more than once helps me to find things I didn’t first see.
I had this happen recently when I found the Gobble Birdhouse, which was sitting in plain sight in TJ Maxx. I missed it when I first walked by it. But I found it when I walked by and realized it was there the second time out.
So, again always walk by and look twice. Because you never know what you may have missed.
4. Trade on local and national boards to get your ISO.
OK, I only started trading in the past few weeks. But I finally started getting wise and picking up more than one item that is currently highly sought after if I could.
Take, for instance, Rae Dunn’s Honey Pot. This item was newly released in the last month or so. Everyone wanted it. I found a cart mid-day at Homegoods with about 5 or 6 of Honey Pots sitting in plain sight on that cart. I bought three. One was for me. But the other two, I simply wanted to trade for something I wanted and couldn’t find. I traded one so far for a Black Thankful Birdhouse. Sadly, I haven’t found any Black Birdhouses or Halloween LL Canisters. Well, I got lucky with this trade and finally got a Black Birdhouse.
So, again trading on these boards can get you Rae Dunn items that you haven’t found yourself.
5. Follow the Rae Dunn Releases Instagram Page for up-to-date releases.
If you are on Instagram, a great way to find out what is currently being released for Rae Dunn items is to follow @raedunnreleases for all the latest releases. This Instagram Handle gives updates often for all new Rae Dunn releases. So, trust me you want to follow this account if you are indeed hunting for Rae Dunn pieces holiday or otherwise.
There you have it 5 easy, but great ways to find those HFT Holiday Rae Dunn items on your ISO list.

This stuff is really cute.

I think if I started I would have a problem too! I actually saw some at Marshall’s yesterday. Too funny. I probably should have bought them since I bet they are gone now! Your decor is super cute! Thanks for all of the great tips. Pinned!
Janine says
Aw, thank you for pinning!! And I know Rae Dunn stuff goes so quickly. So, if you see something and don’t buy it, chances are it will be gone the next time you go shopping again 😉
Dara says
I would love that honey pot! The last time I went in, there was a ton of items, but none that I really felt I needed to buy. I like the cups with the colors inside and there were none of those. I have done some buying for friends in the past but I stopped when it became too hard to ship things well and the cost to ship isn’t worth it!
Janine says
I know, Dara, this stuff is hard to ship. You really have to pack it well and then it costs. But if you are trading a great way around the shipping cost is to use Depop shipping as you each pay the same amount and it wipes out the shipping essentially.

I’m afraid this one is wasted on me. We don’t buy holiday gifts. Having said that, I can still wish you a brilliantly happy Tuesday, my friend, on this soggy morning in Olympia.
Janine says
Aw, thanks just for stopping in for a bit and hoping you are having a fabulous Tuesday so far, Bill 🙂
Tamara says
This is all new to me! I’m loving that honey pot, though! Really all of it. Fall decor is the best!
Janine says
Aw, I am so happy to introduce you to the world of Rae Dunn, especially with her Fall/Halloween Decor as it is simply the best until Christmas that is 😉

Fun tips! I don’t have any Rae Dunn items, but I do love the style. I think I’d have a problem with the holiday themed items if I found them.

That is exactly it. I keep finding these holiday items and having trouble passing them up 😉
Meredith Spidel says
Oh my goodness! I didn’t even know about this line, but now I am swooning! Especially that honey jar–would be perfect to keep on our counter for honey from my husband’s bees. Thanks for the scoop, Janine!
Janine says
Meredith, the honey Pot was made for you and your husband!! Seriously, you need that piece in your life 😉
Cynthia says
Sweet Janine! I’m a lil behind in all my comments and visiting others’ blogs. Life will get more “normal” (whatever that means, lol) soon. Hehe. But just wanted to come by and say what a fun post. I hope that your autumn season is wonderful and beautiful and that you find all the Rae Dunn things you need to find. lol
Sending you big hugs!
Janine says
