Finally the weekend! It was truly a very long week for me from start to finish.
The girls did it and finally started school this past Tuesday. It was, as most know, Emma’s second year of pre-school and Lily’s first.
Emma was an old pro and met her teacher Monday happily. Lily didn’t cry, but was definitely a bit more reserved and shy. We were told that on the first day she hung close to the teacher’s aid. Although, she never cried, was also told she had that look on her face when we first left her that she wanted to cry though.
When I asked Lily why she was upset, she told me that she wanted Mommy and Daddy. Talk about Mommy guilt. This was Tuesday and she has Wednesdays off. We dropped Emma off on Wednesday and she happily came home with me. Last year she used to kick and scream having to come home, but I guess she knows that she gets this special time with me and seems to like it.
The rest of the week came and went though. The girls finished out the school week on Thursday and survived. I am finishing up a few jobs and then hoping to enjoy the weekend.
Soccer starts on Sunday and we are all excited to kick off the Fall Session. Here is to a great one and by the way Kevin is coaching Emma’s team. So this should truly being interesting and can’t wait to see how it goes for him.
Not that it is Saturday, I want to share my Ten Thankful Things, my wrap-up and more. So, let’s get started.
My Ten Things of Thankful of The Week~

first day of school! aiyyee are there too many other life events that gets so anchored in the memory? … tell me, do (brand new) school shirts still have that odd… starch and plastic smell? and tissue paper….and pins! (one more than you can find!)
(something tells me that the reality I am describing is no where even close to the reality today… but still, First Day of School!

A cheer for a great first week of school! Like Emma, my pre-k kids don't usually cry when mom leaves, but the primary ones sometimes do (I have three out of 11 that cry a little when dropped off, and we just finished our second week of school). But they always stop within a minute or two, because it's too much fun at preschool to cry very long, plus I reassure them that mom (or dad or grandma or whomever) will be back to get them after we do some fun things. I even tell them what the last thing we will be doing that day is, so they will know when we finish that activity, it will be time to go home. I'm sure Lily is having a blast at school and will forget all about being sad that you're not there. (And I love their First Day picture.)
Have fun with fall soccer! The weather will be SO much better!
My recent post Random Thanks
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks for telling me this Dyanne and love how you explain this to your pre-school kids, especially telling them the last activity, so they will know when to expect to see mom or dad again. Really quite clever. And soccer weather today was so very nice. It was a long day, but definitely a good day (for the most part!).
Dyanne@IWantBacksies says
When they get a little older, around 3rd grade, get them into volleyball. Think indoor sport, climate controlled. And it's even more fun to watch than soccer (don't tell Christine I said that).

I won't say anything, but my husband is 7th heaven and truly always wanted to coach his own child in the sport he grew up on. So really was awesome seeing them together!! π
