I couldn’t have been more than 7 or 8 years old, but still can totally recall being out to dinner with my family for a meal out.

My dad ordered me my first Shirley Temple. But what is a Shirley Temple Drink? Read on now…

Dad-I-kid

My Dad and I back when I was a kid…

See, this drink is kid friendly with no alcohol even though it is a pretty and tasty type of drink.  I also loved the color and the presentation of this drink, as it was truly a fancy type of drink, but also tasted delicious.  And being named after the late, but great Shirley Temple, was an added bonus as my own grandmother actually turned me onto her movies when I was younger, as well.  I was and still am a fan of Shirley Temple’s movies by the way.

So after that my dad would order it for me whenever we went out as I absolutely enjoyed this drink and it became a favorite of mine after that first try.

I never lost my love for a good, old-fashioned, Shirley Temple even once I was old enough to drink alcoholic drinks.

So much so that during both of my pregnancies, when I couldn’t consume any alcohol, my husband used to make me this classy drink to at least enjoy the semblance of a fancy drink minus the alcohol content.

Even pregnant, I loved a good, old-fashioned Shirley Temple…

Fast forward to having both my girls and I decided to make Shirley Temple drinks for them as I felt they were old enough to try this drink out.  Also, spring break last week. So I wanted to make this drink as a special treat during their time off.

Dasani Product Collage Signed

So off to Target I went to secure supplies to fashion this Shirley Temple recipe for us. As I was shopping in my local Target and noticed that they had recently relaunched Dasani Sparkling in Raspberry Lemonade and Lime flavors in sleek cans.  I quickly purchased the two different blends with the intention to make this drink for us to enjoy and make the moment sparkle with the new sleek Dasani Sparkling cans. Plus, Dasani Sparkling makes a healthier, yet flavorful beverage option.

Overall though, I absolutely loved that I could pass down my passion for the Shirley Temple drink to my girls. Also, I enjoy a classy, refreshing drink in the process.

Now, check out my Shirley Temple Recipe…

    Janine,

I am all about fun drinks that the entire family can enjoy. I have never had an alcoholic drink as I am pretty sure my adult kids have not either, but I love to have fun drinks to celebrate. I saw this Dasani Sparkling Water recently while traveling. It was room temperature, and we did not have a way to chill it. I will have to pick some up this week in the store. It would be fun this weekend for Mother’s Day.

    Thanks for letting me know.
    Blessings,
    Diane

I think it is nice to have options that are fun and don’t have alcohol. It is great for our kids, especially as they become teens, to see that having fun is not about imbibing. There are a vast array of options out there, so enjoy what you like!

      May 2, 2016 at 8:52 am

I couldn’t agree more with you, Seana!! 😉

This is one treat I have to pass on. My alcoholic mind triggers on even non-alcoholic drinks, so it’s best I just drink smoothies and be happy. LOL

    Happy Monday Janine!

Totally understand, but Happy Monday still Bill!! 😉

Girl after my own heart! I remember my first Shirley Temple at my dad’s bar. Yes, we had a bar in our own house. And an art studio! It was a crazy house, growing up, but mostly non-alcoholic. Which was cool.
Dasani rocks – I saw the display at my Target and bought three boxes!

OK, just more we have in common, because my dad totally had a bar in our old childhood house back in the day, too! So, definitely more twin action on that. And I know I am truly loving Dasani Sparkling and going to buy more this week still now, too!! 🙂

I’m one of those girls that goes to a bar and orders a beer. I don’t think I’ve ever had a Shirley Temple. I am a fan of the actress though. I loved her movies too. Especially the ones when she was really little.

    • Janine says

      May 3, 2016 at 9:37 am

I loved Shirley Temple’s really early movies, as well, but just so not a beer girl to be honest. I much rather a mixed drink if it does contain alcohol still.
