True story, my family loves s’mores. Also a true story, my family struggles at breakfast time during the school year. I don’t know what it is with mornings. But they really are the worst for us. Therefore, I have had to come up with ways to to make mornings more tolerable. A few things work for us. One of the ways is to serve my kids s’mores breakfast parfait cups.

But before I share my tried and true recipe for s’mores breakfast parfait cups, here are a few more ways mornings are more bearable for us.
5 Tips to Help Make School Mornings Easier With Kids
1. Get as much done the night before.
When in doubt do it beforehand. This would include packing backpacks and lunches, as well as picking out outfits the evening before. Plus if you have girls like I do, then you might even want to braid hair the night before to eliminate tangles. Trust me, this one has saved this girl mom many a tear from being shed early in the morning over the knots. See these knots somehow multiple while little girls apparently peacefully sleep at night otherwise!
2. Wake up before them.
As much as I am not a morning person and probably will never be, I make sure daily that I am awake before my girls. Why? Because if I didn’t mutiny would be afoot. Even when I am sick, I still make sure to get up before them on school days. Simply because that head start for my day truly makes all the difference.
3. An alarm clock helps get the morning and breakfast started easier.
Now that my girls have learned how to tell time, I have found that having an alarm clock was essential. As crazy as this one may sound, believe me that the visual of seeing the time helps. Why? Because it allows them to get out of bed when they have to. Because when they hear the alarm go off, they know that it is indeed time to rise and shine for the day ahead.
4. Stick to a schedule to make mornings run smoother.
I try my best with my two girls to keep it simple. Yes it feels like I am living the same day like Bill Murray in Groundhog’s Day. But still I have come to the conclusion that with kids they just need a structured routine to keep the morning moving more smoothly.
5. Simple, but yummy breakfast.
Not sure why cereal for breakfast gets a bum rap. But I am all for cereal on school mornings for breakfast. That said, I get cereals that are kid friendly. Plus, cereals that are fan favorites here help, as well.
Recently, we found a new cereal being sold at our local Shop-Rite with Post Honey Maid S’mores. Yes, you read that correct S’mores cereal! See Honey Maid S’mores is a delicious cereal, breakfast treat.
Plus now, my kids can enjoy the delicious taste of s’mores right in their own cereal bowls. This cereal contains chocolatey goodness, sweet marshmallows and the delicious taste of HONEYMAID® Graham Crackers!
So now my girls can enjoy that classic graham cracker-y goodness amor breakfast. Therefore, s’mores indoors have never been been so delicious!

School mornings are a struggle in my household too! I tried to establish a routine but when my husband takes over, goodbye routine. All go down the drain because he has his own ways. Lol. It’s such a different situation here considering my work schedule. Breakfast is so important and I honestly struggle with what to prepare everyday.
Janine says
Rea, so agree about school mornings. We may have differing schedules, but still we can totally agree about school mornings.

I have officially joined the school morning routine! Sam and Eve have to be out of the house by 7:30 to take the city bus and arrive on time, so we had to figure out some things that make the morning run smoothly. Eve pretty much lives in braids to keep the knots out, and we’re huge fans of breakfast parfaits for breakfast. These look super tasty, thanks for sharing!
Janine says
Happy to share and Bev braids have saved many a morning here for me, too 🙂

Cynthia says
HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS WHEN IT CAME OUT!?!? S’mores for breakfast!? And honey, you are speaking my LANGUAGE: I am not a morning person. It takes me 3 days to wake up. I am not fully functional until around 10am, even if I get up at 6am and have quiet time in the mornings before heading out.
Further exacerbating my problem is this vegan month: I’m GLAD I’ve done it, but breakfast is REALLY hard. People tell me, “make a smoothie,” or “get high protein things ready beforehand.” I don’t have kids and I’ve managed to fill every minute of my day with things to do, but I will tell you that after making dinner the night before, the thought of making breakfast, too, when I’m already so tired is just not gonna happen.
So, I resort to Pop Tarts and coconut-based yogurt.
But OMG…I can get these S’mores cereal boxes, pair them up with chocolate coconut-based yogurt and marshmallows…
Oh, friend! You have no idea how much you’ve made my day! LOL
Janine says
Aw, you have no clue how much you made my day in return. No wonder why we get along so well as even after I had my kids I am still so not a morning person. I have tried, but still mornings are rough no matter how you slice and dice it. Hugs and thank you for always just being you, Cyndi!!! <3
Lana_SHON says
