When you think of English cuisine, there probably isn’t much that comes to mind! Steak, fish, and pies, perhaps. But otherwise, there doesn’t seem to be much depth to the English style of cooking!
However, when you’re on a trip to the UK, there’s quite a few unique culinary experiences you can have. You just need to make sure you know where to go to find them.
As such, here’s a quick list of the best UK towns and cities for finding a great dining out experience.

Keswick
At the heart of the Lake District, and one of the most well known towns in Cumbria, Keswick has quite a few delightful restaurants for you to check out.
And most of the food you’ll find in Keswick is hearty, rich, and warming – a perfect accompaniment for the hiking, climbing, and watersport activities that the area is known for.
Fun fact: Cumbria is actually home to a few Michelin Star restaurants!
Really, while you’re in the Lake District, you’re never going to be too far away from a gorgeous village with an award winning, gold-star restaurant on offer!
Liverpool
The North has an underrated culinary scene, and never is there more proof for this than in Liverpool.
Greek food, Italian, steak and chips, pub classics, and plenty of light bites and tapas options can all be found in the docklands area.
And if you head to an italian restaurant Liverpool waterfront establishment, you’ll be able to dig into your pizza or pasta with a view of the River Mersey!
Brighton
We’re heading down south now, and going all the way down to the south east coast to visit Brighton.
It’s one of the best cities for finding an eclectic mix of traditional English food, as well as gastropubs, Indian restaurants, American classics, and plenty of takeaways too.
You can’t move for food options while you’re in the city, but you can lounge on the beach with a portion of fish and chips if you’d like to!
Bristol
Bristol has some of the most unique dining experiences in the UK, from a 20s themed steakhouse to a cozy restaurant made from an old shipping container.
All in all, you’ll probably have a great time eating out in Bristol!
Manchester
Finally, we’re going to head back up north to Manchester!
Home to great restaurants in both the Northern Quarters and Deansgate, you can eat your way across central Manchester in the form of French cuisine, Italian food, and fantastic Chinese options.
