Things I Love: My Husband’s Sarcastic Humor…

Filed Under: Kids Posts, Married Life Tagged With: Marital Conversations, Sarcasm

This post today has been written and linked up with The Happy Wives Club for their Thursday “Why I Love My Husband Linkup:

Why I Love My Husband

“Say, thanks to the man who brought you into this world.” That is Kevin trying to be a comedian with my girls as he is opening up a bag of M&M’s.

He knows they want the candy in that bag, because hell, Lily just even asked, “Can I ‘have M E M’s” (her 2 year old way of saying it).

My response to his joke is to bust on him just a bit by saying this, “You didn’t bring them into this world, I gave birth to them!”

“Well, my seed started the whole process,” Kevin answers me with his smart ass mouth.

“Really, so that 30 seconds release of sperm, means more than giving birth?”, I retort trying to tease him some more for his comment.

“I didn’t say that, but if it weren’t for the sperm they wouldn’t be here,” Kevin chimes in laughing and trying to be entertaining still.

“Yes, but carrying two kids for nine months each and then going through hours of labor, where and I quote you said during my delivery of Lily, ‘Oh does that hurt’, and by the way it did, qualifies you more for bringing them into this world safely. Very interesting way of thinking and have a feeling many women all over the world would disagree on that one,” I add for good measure now smirking.

“Ok, you had more than something to do with it. I get it and I was there for all of the above,” he now says with his cute boyish smile knowing full well that he is just itching to be cute about this and trying so desperately to make me laugh at his so-called funny he believes he just made.

As I walked away from him, while eating a handful of M&M’s, I just couldn’t help, but laugh out loud slightly.

I heard from the other side of the room, “Mission accomplished. My job is done and see girls that is how to make your mother laugh by being a complete jerk.”

Both of us, do this quite well and take pride in it!!

Yeah, he was proud of himself, but here is a little secret, he does just have that uncanny ability to make me laugh. He can try to pretend to be a jerk by teasing me, but he really isn’t and he truly is one in a million and all mine. I have to say, I got lucky as far as husbands go, because he will pitch in and help with the kids after a long day at work, clean the dishes after I cooked a meal for us, and even go grocery shopping while I am spending Saturday morning keeping Emma occupied while Lily has dance class and then make the switch so that the yet Emma can dance while we wait some more for over two hours.

So even though, his comment might have offended some women or women’s groups, my husband truly was just being his lovable jokester and sarcastic self. I have to say I do quite enjoy this side of him, because we do play nicely off each other with our sarcastic sense of humors (yes those that read me know I have sarcastic streak and so does my husband, too).

And by the way, I know once I publish this he is going to read it and say, a) “You made up half of the conversation (because half the times he doesn’t remember the half of the half of what we joke about) and then add for good measure b) “Why didn’t you tell them about how you dropped the bag of M&M’s splattering some on the floor during this conversation?” (yes, he gave me the bag and thought that a twist tie was on it, thus spilling it all over the kitchen floor).

Because again this is his way of saying he does read my writing and that he even likes it, because Kevin wouldn’t be Kevin quite simply, if he weren’t joking around with me and trying to make me laugh. That is why I love him, because he makes my day that much brighter and even funnier.

He Is The Best!!!

Love that he makes you laugh. So important in a relationship I think. Great photo too!

Thanks Steph and he truly does. Even this morning before work the things he was coming out with. He truly is a very funny and lovable guy and totally agree with you that this is such an important thing to have in a good relationship!! 🙂

He certainly looks, and is, a warm-hearted caring husband and father, and may the two of you have eternal married bliss! Blessings to you and the family, Janine!!

Michelle, thank you. He is awesome, especially with our girls. This photo is just one of so many examples that I reminded of all day long 🙂 🙂

Aw, this is so sweet. We don't post enough of these, do we? Like you, I got lucky in the husband department. He keeps me laughing, although I'm pretty sure a lot of people would cringe if they heard the dialogue in here some days. 🙂 But we make a good team. Loved this post!

    • Janine Huldie says

      January 17, 2013 at 4:54 am

Thanks Dani and I am so glad I am not alone with the cringe worthy dialogue. Seriously, we are just that comfortable after almost 7 years of marriage to say or do anything and love that about our relationship. It is the inside jokes that truly make me laugh and so glad that someone else can relate to this, too 🙂 🙂

I think being with someone who can make you laugh is key to a happy relationship and you've clearly got that going on with the two of you. My husband makes crazy comments and jokes like that too — we make fun of each other but it's all good-natured and to make the other person laugh. Sounds like you've got a keeper there! 🙂

Emily, i completely agree and when I was writing this I thought to myself that I hoped no one took this one the wrong way, because he truly was just being funny. That is Kevin's sense of humor and quite honestly I can't get enough of it. He can make me laugh even when I want to cry sometimes, because he will say something like this and I just can't help myself. Thanks and so glad you too can relate 🙂 🙂

I'm still laughing at the cartoon…I put that shit on everything! Man, was I one sarcastic s.o.b. when I was younger. Took a few punches for it too; I can say that I am definitely less sarcastic; I can also say that I'm missing out on a lot of fun by being less sarcastic. LOL

    • Janine Huldie says

      January 17, 2013 at 6:25 am

Lol Bill. I loved that picture, too. I will say my sarcastic streak comes from my grandfather. Growing up I adored him and I was told quite often how I was a lot like him. And to this day, I just can't help, but have sarcasm down, as does Kevin and that is just one of the many reasons I love him. Thanks seriously as always!!! 🙂

Hahaha, Janine. This is all so hilarious! You and Kevin are so funny and it's so cute to see all of you together. 🙂 Have a wonderful day, my friend!

You have such a cute family! You are lucky that your hubs reads and comments on your blog, evenif he gives you such a hard time! My husband does not even know the URL to my blog! Oh, and it kills me that they still try to take credit for bringing the children into the world! Hmph! Voted for you! 🙂

Thanks Alexa and will say this he lives for blog posts that are about him. It is truly his 5 minutes of fame and he gets a real charge about it. I am surprised he hasn't commented, yet. Because he has been known to make an appearance via comment on here before. I love it too though about his comment and seriously, he did say during my labor with Lily, "Does it hurt?" If I could have kicked him in the balls at that moment and asked the same question so would have, lol!!! Seriously, he is a true tease through and through!! 🙂 🙂

Haha omg this sounds exactly like my husband! He totally is a sarcastic jerk at times and he's really good at it too. Gets the last word in ALL the time. I could see him saying that same last line as Kevin did in your conversation lol. And I'm with you–as much as it can annoy me, it's one of the things that I love about him. He's never boring, that's for sure! I think it takes men like our hubbies to be daddies to little girls!

    • Janine Huldie says

      January 17, 2013 at 9:34 am

Oh so true about it being annoying, but then I so can't help myself and laugh myself silly from stuff like this. And you are so right, Kevin too is the perfect girl father just like your hubby, too 🙂 🙂

My husband sometimes reads my blogs… and sometimes he is just so busy that if he doesn't see the link if I have been active on Facebook. That being said… sometimes I am so proud of the inspiration he gives me… I can't wait to tell him what I wrote about… like the holey underwear. Our husbands seem very alike… he has the same way of being able to always make me smile!

    • Janine Huldie says

      January 17, 2013 at 9:35 am

Oh I love that our husbands are similar and can totally relate to wanting to tell him what I wrote. I try to keep a surprise, because I truly look forward to his comments that he will leave when he has no idea. Like the one he left below, lol!! 🙂

It is sweet the way you've given him props. And you are very lucky. My husband would eat out of containers before he'd do dishes, and there's no way he's helping w/anything after working all day. He's got a lot of good qualities, but not those…and I know how you lucky you are (and it sounds like you do too). 🙂

    • Janine Huldie says

      January 17, 2013 at 12:55 pm

Thanks Rosey and trust me I know how lucky I am that he does pitch in when he comes home from work and am truly thankful for that 🙂 🙂

    'ya gotta laugh'
I'm not sure of the context (of this statement), but the ability to make each other laugh is the key to any relationship lasting.
Of course, underneath any sarcasm is surely respect and caring… but maybe that's the fever talking. Good Post
@Kat my wife is somewhere between your husband and Janine's. Phyllis does know where 'I can be found'… but for some reason, does not follow my blog every day. (Can't for the life of me understand why she doesn't!) lol

Clark, I couldn't agree with you more and am so thankful that we do have this one down pat. As for Phyllis, it sounds like she is a wonderful wife even if she doesn't always read your blog 🙂 🙂

Visiting from Happy Wives Club… My hubby is as sarcastic as they come. It took a while for me to get used to it, but we have made concessions on both sides. It shows that we have mutual respect. It's great that you get along; that you accept him as he is.
