October Daily #16~What are your goals and dreams for the future? You can share to us your dream house, dream workplace, or even your bucketlist before you turn 25!~In my case more like 40 (in 4 short years!).
Dreams, good or bad, we all have them.
Last night, I had the worst dream possible. It started out that for some reason before bed my upper back/neck was bothering me. I felt like someone was stabbing me in between my shoulder blades.
For those who know me and follow me, you probably are aware that I go to a chiropractor for my lower back, but every once in awhile now my upper back bothers me, too. I am sure working all week long on the computer doesn’t help my cause. But I digress.
I laid down to relax, watching old reruns of 90210, because 1993 and Senior year was and still classic to me. I fell asleep and somewhere during the night, i began to dream, but this was an awful dream actually more a nightmare.
It started out simple enough with me picking up my girls from what appeared to be school (only it didn’t look like their pre-school). Emma got upset about something and she began to cry. I bent down letting go of Lily’s little hand. The next thing I knew, I couldn’t find Lily. It was awful and gut wrenching. I ran the length of the school still holding tightly to Emma’s hand, while trying to find Lily. Someone eventually stopped me and simply said, “They took her, she is gone!”
I realized that Lily had been kidnapped, but I couldn’t get to her or find her. I woke up at 5 am and couldn’t go back to sleep for fear that I would re-enter that dream. I got up and first checked Lily’s bed, where she was sound asleep. I touched her to make sure she was real and there. Then, I did the same with Emma, who also was very much asleep and there.
But I admit I was spooked in the dark, loneliness of my house at that time and sleep or dreaming never happened again that night. I got up and just started to work, stiff neck and all.
Here is the thing, I do have wonderful dreams and bucket list, where everything is indeed perfect and definitely not a nightmare.
The prompt mentioned what I would like to have accomplished by 25 years of age, well I hit 25 over 11 years ago and now this bucket list is what I would like to have by the time I hit 40 years old, which is now less then 4 short years away (yes this freaks me out a bit, probably why I wanted to see This Is 40! so badly, because yes I can relate to really not wanting to hit this number). When I was in my twenties, I am not going to lie, forty seemed old and so far off. Now that it isn’t really far away for me, I have a few short dreams that I would like to make come true for me and my family, too.
My Dreams & Goals for When I Turn 40~
- Buy and live in our home. We are getting closer each day to this one~so stay tuned.
- Take the girls to Disney before they get to old that they won’t look at the Princesses like they corny or cheesy, but more like they are still quite magical.
- Have J9 Designs and my blog, too become a household name (this one would really be the cherry on the cake)!
- Wishing for good health continued for both my parents, because as I get older so do they and definitely couldn’t bear to loss either of them yet.

Scary dreams (Nightmares) like that are awful! I hope your neck and back are feeling better.
I like your bucket list. I've never really made one myself as in write it down. Maybe this is something I should do.
Janine Huldie says
Susan, it was so awful and I literally was crying when I woke. As for my neck it is somewhat better, but still not 100% (thank god for the chiropractor). The list was fun to do. I only have 4 years and do know not a lot of time to do too much, so I kept it limited to the big things I would truly like to accomplish π
The Dose of Reality says
That is just awful! I had one of those dreams several months ago, and it honestly took me like a week to stop thinking about it! I am so sorry.-Ashley
My recent post Would You Rather: Belt It Out Or Cut A Rug?
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Ashley and I told Kevin and he even was freaked a bit. When we went pumpkin picking this weekend (there was a lot of people there), he kept making sure the girls were holding one of our hands. So, I know I not only was upset for days, but so was he!
eddy says
Wonderful Janine and how nice to see my book My Beautiful Rock Rose on here also. I will always have dreams to achieve; many I have already achieved but there will always be more.
Another wonderful read Janine.
Eddy.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks as always Eddy and truly my pleasure. Wishing you a wonderful day again, too!! π
Rosey says
I had the dumbest dream last night, not a good one. I woke up telling my brain to knock it off, lol.
Good luck achieving those goals. I hope your girls see Disney while it's still magical too. π
My recent post Worless Wedne'sssss'day
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Rosey and I know I was so afraid to go back to sleep and kept telling myself to knock it off with that dream!!
Lisa @ Golden Spoons says
I rarely have scary dreams, but when I do I hate it. Sounds like we are about the same age, and 40 is definitely approaching quickly! For a long time, my main goal was to be a mom. Obviously, I've accomplished that, so now I am trying to figure out what goals I want to achieve in the future. I think it has something to do with my writing, but I'm not quite sure exactly what! π
My recent post A "Meltdown" Giveaway!
Janine Huldie says
Lisa, I too don't usually have scary dreams, but as you can see when I do they pretty damn scary. I love that we are around the same age. I just just turned 36 in June and still can't believe I am indeed heading to 40 years old soon!
Kristi Campbell says
Dreams like that are horrible π
I dream of falling a lot – or of Tucker falling, into the ocean, or a river…I'm sure a dream analyst would have a field day with it but I can never go back to sleep.
Your goals are perfect and I'm sure they'll all come true. Also? 40's not as bad as you think it will be. Really!
Janine Huldie says
Kristi, I need to hear that believe me, because it does frighten me a bit to turn 40 and am not going to lie to you. By the way as a kid, I used to dream off falling off a bridge while we drive to vacation or other places. So god only knows what that said about me!
Billybuc says
Well, dreams before I am 40 are in the rearview mirror. LOL I still have dreams, though; one day we want our own farm in the country, and a writer's retreat there for writers to stay at and work on their craft….and of course I want to be published by a real publishing firm….and I want my family to be healthy and happy…..and on and on we go. π Have a great day Janine!
Janine Huldie says
Wonderful dreams Bill and truly hope all of them come true for you now. I have no doubt you will do everything in your power to make that indeed happen. Have a wonderful day, too!! π
tamaralikecamera says
Ugh, those realistic nightmares are the worst. I had the worst sleep ever last night. Well, you read my blog. I was waiting to be diagnosed with melting gums and 171 cavities.
I remember thinking 40 seemed so old. I remember thinking 30 did! And now I love my 30's. So many beautiful things to do still.
Janine Huldie says
So sorry you slept so badly last night, but am so glad it went so well at the dentist. Seriously very frightened about this too and need to find the courage to make an appointment soon. I do love my 30s, but still quite frightened about my 40s now!!
Kenya G. Johnson says
Wow that was a terrible dream. It takes a while for those kind to wear off too. The suckiest thing about getting older means that your parents are getting older too π Waaaaaaaaah
Janine Huldie says
I know Kenya and hate thinking about this, but know it is true both my parents are getting older and just hoping that the years now don't go too quickly.
dishofdailylife says
I hate nightmares. I used to have the same one over and over again about a car barreling from out of nowhere at my kids…thankfully I haven't had it in a while!
Janine Huldie says
Glad you haven't had that dream in awhile and seriously that sounds awful and wish I could give you hug just thinking you did dream that, Michelle.
stephanie2006 says
Oh my goodness, I hate those dreams that just don't let you go! During both of my pregnancies I dreamed of blood, and I was so scared, even though I knew as I was dreaming that it wasn't real…
Love the bucket list!! Can't wait to hear that you guys are actually house hunting π
My recent post Wordless Wednesday – Weeping Liberty
Janine Huldie says
I know they are the worst and the blood dreams during pregnancy are so scary. I never had that, but probably would have freaked me out. And I can't wait to share the house hunting news!! π
notinjersey says
that sounds like a bad nightmare for sure. I have had dreams that I got up and went about my day, leaving the house for work or whatever, only to remember I've left my baby in their crib. I hate that! I do like your bucket list of dreams for age 40! I actually once wrote a 40 by 40 list, but a lot of it doesn't apply anymore, haha.
Janine Huldie says
I so would have done a 40 by 40 list, but truly don't have that much that I could get to by 40, so I thought I would stick to only a few that I knew I could probably accomplish. And the dream sounds awful and seriously would have gotten me upset for sure!
notinjersey says
the thing is, I wrote it awhile ago. but I put things on it like "see so and so in concert again." and now I don't remember if I saw them again after I wrote the list! haha.
My recent post Family Vacations #31Days
Janine Huldie says
Dara, you just described my brain half of the time with being a mom. Seriously, I have my yearly physical tomorrow and I got a call a few days ago to confirm. Only they tried telling me the appointment for me was 2 days earlier. I thought that it was entirely possible that I screwed up and wrote the wrong date down. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they made the error when they called me, but still I so could have done that so easily is the point!
realhousewife says
Interesting post Janine! Having worked in a sleep lab for seven years I know a few things about it:). I firmly believe dreams are just bits and pieces of things we think about during the day. Sometimes problems can seep into our unconscious mind and make their way into our dreams so it is one way to reevaluate what we might be thinking about…but I don't out a lot of stock into them. I don't think they have one meaning that's universal but personal meaning.
I had a dream once that My daughter fell into a deep weird pool of water and I couldn't find her!! I woke up still terrified!
Janine Huldie says
The thing I thought might have been in my subconscious was actually something I was told (a story) a few days earlier when I was getting my hair done. The lady washing my hair shared her son (now 42 years old) was almost kidnapped as a child. So, if I had to take a guess I would say that was in the back of my mind somewhere. But the pool would have terrified me, too. And thank you for sharing, because I saw I think it is so interesting about studying people's sleep patterns and behaviors and god only knows the story mine would tell!
Judy Haughton-James says
I have some terrible nightmares at times Janine. I am so happy that it was only a nightmare and your children are safe and sound. You have a great bucket list and I hope they all come true before you are 40. Take care and my very best wishes to you and your family.

I hate it hen a really good dream turns into something bad, too.
About the back pains, maybe put patches to make it feel better?
I can't wait to see your house! π Wishing the best for you and your family, Janine! π
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Mary and I have used those patches in the past and they have helped. This time, I used something called mineral ice and it did help a bit and finally saw the chiropractor at the end of the week. And totally wishing you the best right back at you, too Mary!! π

I hate that feeling you get when you wake up from a horrible dream. Nightmares always haunt me for several hours after I wake up. I really like the goals you have set yourself before you turn 40 – they are realistic and family-orientated. Your blog is already a household name in our household! xx
My recent post Sharing some sisterly love
Janine Huldie says
First off, Lizzy thank you for saying that about my blog. Seriously so sweet and so kind of you. I can’t say that enough and truly put a smile on my face tonight. And those nightmares, do very much haunt me for hours after for sure, but jut thanking god that that dream was indeed just a dream.
lsdavidson says
I hate bad dreams:((((( Good thing they are just bad dreams:((( I love your 40 bucket list though! I remember when 40 seemed so far off. I'm 41 now. 40 still feel far off! Lol!! I think your dreams are totally achievable!!
Janine Huldie says
Leah, you made me smile with that comment, but seriously you are right and good thing they are just bad dreams and nothing more. Thank you as always!! π
GrowUpMadison says
For some reason lately my dreams have been turning into nightmares where I'm scared to even go to sleep. I probably sleep like 2-4hrs a night because I get up ever so often so I don't have to dream. The realistic ones, or the ones that you know can happen are the worst. That's some great goals you have and all attainable. You definitely gotta go to Disney. π

I am so sorry that your dreams have been turing into nightmares and I can attest from that one night that I was so exhausted the next day and not sure I would be able to function if it kept happening to me. And you are so right about the realistic ones and that is why I was so freaked out, because that could have totally happened. Thanks so much!! π
Sandy Ramsey says
Oh, I cannot stand those kind of dreams..the ones that involve my kids. When Nikki was a baby I dreamed she fell down one of those drainage grates in a parking lot and it was bottomless. That still haunts me and I never let my kids walk over them! Your list is pretty darn amazing, and I love them all. Just so you know, we live 40 minutes from Disney and have done the trip a good number of times. We went at the beginning of this year and Nikki was 10. She STILL had that look of wonder on her face, especially at the parades and it actually made me cry. I agree to take them when they are younger but sometimes, if you're very lucky, there's still a little girl left inside them when the are a little older, too!
Janine Huldie says
Sandy, that would have freaked me ut and probably held onto that for years, too. So can see what you felt and where you were coming from. And I love how you described Niki with Disney and gives me hope if we wait a few more years that they both will still be over the moon and not completely lose that wonder and joy from the experience. Thanks π
NuggetOnABudget says
I would totally be freaking out too if I had a nightmare like that! One time I came back from a walk with the girls and Dallas and had everyone in the garage…the garage doors were already closed. I turned around to say something to Sofia and she was nowhere to be found. Now I knew she wasn't outside because the doors were closed, but I could not find her anywhere in the house…I had that same horrible feeling and even though I knew she was somewhere, it was scary. I finally found her in the garage at the other side of the car. But it made my heart sink!
Your goals are definitely good ones and I know you will achieve them π I can't wait to take the girls to Disney World too, even if it is before they will remember much of anything. I think that age is the most magical for them. xoxo!
My recent post it's okay #10.
Janine Huldie says
Kera, I would have been in a such a panic if I couldn't find Emma or Lily, but thank god you did find Sophia and you knew deep down she had to be somewhere in the house. Kids do hide sometimes, but still it is a horrible feeling when you feel like you have lost them or can't find them. And I seriously hope Disney is our not too distant future now, too!! π
gigigirl says
That was a pretty scary dream you had about losing Lily! So much bad news these days, you probably had some residue from a news story. But she and Emma are safe and you have lots of good things to look forward to …. Bucket List and otherwise. I know the house will be a reality in the near future, which is wonderful. Turning 40 is a big stepping stone….but as Nanny always said, be glad you made it! If we don't get older, what's the alternative? Have a great weekend. See you soon. xxxxoooo
Janine Huldie says
I love what Nanny always said and totally have to keep that in mind as I am getting older. I so thank god this was just a dream and that they are here safe and sound. Thanks Aunt Gloria and love you!! xoxo π
