Our Current Situation
Right now, my family and I are spending all our time as homebodies due to COVID-19 and social distancing etiquette that is our current state of affairs. We are not unlike so many others across the country now, as well.
Moreover, my girls are spending their time getting schooled through distance learning. Their school iPads have been a godsend for so much of their current learning.
But my girls are hands-on kids and love to create using stuff around the house. In the first week of distance learning, their art teacher assigned a robot to make of things found around the house. I cannot tell you how much fun these two had by making a robot together scouring our house for robot parts. Seriously, the joy I felt seeing how excited they got and how they helped each other put their robot together was uplifting even during this very unsettling time.
So, I realized that I need to give these two more opportunities to create and be crafty, especially during this time.
Juicy Juice Juice Boxes to the Pencil Holder Rescue
On a side note, we are always stocked up on Juicy Juice Juice Boxes, because both my girls love it, especially my youngest, my picky eater. I really should have given her the middle name “Juice” as this kid has always loved her juice. But having them home, my girls have their fair share of juice boxes during the week.
As luck would have it, we were talking about recycling and upcycling after the aforementioned robot art project. I looked at the empty juice box containers after they had each just had one with lunch. Something clicked. I thought why can’t we use the empty box for a crafty, hands-on art project?
We have washi tapes as we love to craft with them. Plus, we also have twine, beads, and even a hot glue gun. So, we got to work. We ended up creating a Washi Tape Pencil Holder with all our supplies. Trust me, they were so easy and fun to make. We spent some quality time together crafting and in the end they each had a pencil holder that they store a few of their pencils for when they do their schoolwork at home now.
Are you home right now and looking for a simple but engaging craft to make with your kids?
