Meditation is a state of inner stillness achieved through turning inwards. It isn’t something that requires fancy equipment or even courses to complete. All you need is a soundless comfortable place.
It can be tricky to master, much like learning anything. Internal stillness isn’t a skill that comes naturally. The world is designed to keep us forever busy with a long list of distractions.
Start Small.
Meditate for five minutes twice per day and then push it to ten minutes. Eventually, combine them, so you’re meditating for twenty minutes in one stretch. Some people find aides to help them in the beginning. The Internet is rich in guided meditation videos and even sound frequencies to help the mind relax.
If that sounds too complicated, try staring at an object for five minutes. What is it made of? What is its purpose? How many molecules go into it? These sorts of questions help keep your mind focused on one thing. Eventually, you’ll be able to quiet the mind without the help of an object.
If you still find yourself unable to fight the intrusive thoughts, do not beat yourself up. Quieting the mind is a challenging skill to master. It takes most people years of daily practice. Even after years and you think you’ve mastered it, intrusive thoughts and mind-wandering can come back. Acknowledge the thought, even write it down, then get back to focusing.
Stress and anxiety.
People who tend to use meditative coloring books as a way to clear their minds report less stress. With fewer thoughts fighting each other for dominance, the mind is clear to deal with each problem as it arises. It can separate what is essential and what isn’t. Full attention can be devoted to serious issues for a better outcome. Solutions may come quicker.
Positive Thoughts.
Meditation can help hone in on the good things in life and dismiss negative mental chatter. It helps break negative thought loops and lift people out of negative cycles. It can even offer some protection against pessimistic people. It can help people know when to walk away from drama and when to get involved.
Any adverse problems can be analysed more effectively. A lot of the negative things in life aren’t necessarily a problem and just need a new way of looking at them. When they are a problem, meditation allows them to be dealt with quickly and more efficiently.

Brain Chemistry.
People who meditate alter their brain chemistry by reducing stress hormones and inflammatory cytokines. This leads to lower rates of depression. Meditation creates a chain reaction. Less stress hormones and inflammation, more effective problem solving, and less stress means less depression overall.
Meditation helps make a person more laid back as they focus on what is important and dismiss everything else. It helps identify their actual problems in life so they can be dealt with and teaches how to reject the less important things.
