The holidays and over indulging in food and drinks seem to go hand-in-hand.
Not going to lie, but I am a lover of all things sweet. I especially enjoy chocolate and even more so peppermint during Christmas time.
But both those food are notorious for causing heart burn.
While I don’t suffer often from heartburn, I do occasionally get heartburn. More so I do during the holiday season. Why? Because like I shared above I find myself eating and drinking more during this time of the year. Plus, I tend to eat and drink more foods that do acerbate heartburn.
But still, I have learned to follow a few simple techniques to help fight heartburn.
Read more below on how I do fight heartburn during the holidays:
1. Consume small and frequent meals.
Even though I eat more during this time of the year. I try to remember to eat it over a longer period of time. So, in essence I try to spread my eating over the course of a few hours, but in smaller portions to help. Why? Because an extremely full stomach can cause the valve between the stomach and esophagus relax. In turn, this pushes stomach acids back up into the esophagus, which cause heartburn.
2. Don’t wear tight clothing.
If I know I am eating more, I tend to wear more comfortable clothing, such as leggings. Why? Because tight fitting clothing around the midsection can push against your stomach and force acid into the esophagus.
3. Sleep with my head up.
While, I try not to eat too close to bedtime. I also make sure to elevate my head six to eight inches while I sleep. Why? Because this helps stomach acid drain from the esophagus more quickly.
4. Try to watch what I eat/drink.
Certain foods once again, such as chocolate, caffeine, spicy foods, red meat, friend food (french fries), citrus (acid) foods (tomatoes), peppermint, as well as drinking alcohol can cause heartburn. So, I do my best to limit my intake of these when possible. But when I do eat them, then I make sure to have #6 on my list available.
5. Use Nexium® 24HR 42ct Tablets when in need.
Sometimes, it is unavoidable to eat or drink foods and/or drinks that can trigger heartburn. During these times, I make sure to have Nexium® 24HR 42ct tablets at the ready. These can be found at your local Walgreens.
Why Nexium® 24HR Capsules?
Because Nexium® 24HR Capsules helps by not allowing frequent heartburn to ruin your holiday with just one pill! See Nexium® 24HR Capsules is all-night protection from frequent heartburn – no matter what triggers it.*
So, I am thankful for Nexium® 24HR Capsules, because now I am able to enjoy one of my all-time holiday favorites…

I try and eat hours before I go to bed, and also to avoid coffee after dinner (which is kind of a bummer, because I love a cup of coffee after dinner!) Chocolate also tends to be bad after dinner.
Janine says
Agreed on all of these myself for me, as well. And coffee sadly too late not only gives me heartburn, but also keeps me awake at night, too.
William Holland says

Yuck, heartburn is no fun! I don’t think I necessarily tend to get it at the holidays, it seems to be pretty random for me so I wish I knew what I could do to prevent it.
The bark looks so tasty! I have a massive sweet tooth so I would have a heart time controlling myself around it 😉
Janine says
Me too, Bev and that is why I thank god for Nexium, because if peppermint bark is present there is no way I am passing it up either 😉
