You know want it, you know you love it, just admit it!!
Seriously, am I the only one who has songs that I listen to that are total guilty pleasures?
You the know the kind that you listen to when you are all by yourself (that is few and far between here, but still).
Well, I am outing myself here a bit today. Trust me I am probably going to get teased mercifully by my husband for this. He is finally not busting on me for my first vlog’s admission of having a crush on Eric from TrueBlood! If you missed it click here.
Hell, I still love RumpShaker, by Wreckx -N-Effect and also OPP by Naughty by Nature (so many years later). I know not the classiest of songs, but seriously very catchy!
But I can’t help it, if it makes me want to move then I am hooked.
So, the other morning, Kevin randomly asked me if I had heard the new Robin Thicke song, because the video was labeled explicit.
When I asked him why it was indeed labeled this, he told me the girls were pretty much all naked in this version.
I told him that I hated his music (well for the most part I never really found myself gravitating to any of his current songs). And I still can’t get past the fact that he is the son of Alan Thicke of Growing Pains fame. All I hear when I see him is, “Show Me That Smile Again!”
Flash forward to the other day when I had the radio on in the car going to the carnival. I had on a station that plays contemporary music (Kevin hates this and would rather listen to the classic rock station). On comes a song, I have heard a few times and definitely like, but yes have no clue the name of the song or the artist that sings in for that matter.
It is catchy and makes me want to dance (yes I am channeling my inner Kevin Bacon here!)
I just want to dance just like Kevin Bacon!!Then, I heard it again that night at the carnival and yet I still don’t know the name, but know I like it.
Finally, I went on iTunes yesterday to search, when you guessed it, I heard it again in my car driving to Ulta for more conditioner for my hair. At this point, I had to know and quite frankly, it was driving me crazy now.
It took me less then five minutes, because hell it turns out to be the #1 single on iTunes right now.
Yup, it also turns out that it was the same song Kevin mentioned to me when discussing the explicit video by Robin Thicke the other morning.
Have you guessed it yet?
I am so hooked on the newest Robin Thicke video featuring T.I. and Pharell, “Blurred Lines”. And now it is in my iTunes and have it on repeat!!
If you haven’t heard about this video or heard this song (you might just be living under the same rock I was), I will include both videos.
Yes the explicit is quite dirty (even getting banned on YouTube, so this is from Vevo), but if you must check it out here it is (I warning you it is quite racy and don’t play this one in front of the kids):
And for those, who just want to hear the song, but don’t want to see naked girls running around, here is the cleaned up version:
So in the end, “It’s Okay” to like songs that are considered by some to be guilty pleasures.
This is linked up to Nugget on a Budget’s “It’s Okay” series today.

Yeah!!! OPP was the soundtrack to my summer early 90's. Loved Naughty by Nature! Didn't realise quite what the song was about until a few years later though… heheh
My recent post Taking a small break from it all…
Janine Huldie says
I know I was naive as to what OPP was about back in the early 90s in my last year of middle school, but still loved the beat and the tune. Now that I do know still can't help, but listen. Just such a classic!!
Mama G says
Definitely, I actually had the picture vinyl of the song. Remember vinyl? How old are WE? Hehe. Now, Robin Thicke, that's a whole other story. I showed Mr G the uncensored video of Blurred Lines. If I had it on loop, I think I might actually have some peace? 😉
My recent post Taking a small break from it all…
Janine Huldie says
Yes, I do remember vinyl and also 8-track and cassettes ,too so how old does that make me!! Lol,seriously thought that sounds like some plan and would love to hear how it plays out!! 🙂
Karen says
WHOA…..I am so out of the loop on music…LOL..
boy those skimpy bottoms were practically see through..wow…LOL.. though if I had a body like that I would be skipping and shaking it all around too, LOL
I always dance like carlton, LOLOLOL…
My recent post MOMMY’S MEALS #2
Janine Huldie says
Lol, I loved Carlton's dance and was the first thing that came to my mind as I was writing this one up. So I knew I had to share that here for sure. And I know they are definitely scantily clad and to be young enough again to shake and move like that!!
Erin Callaway says
That's my favorite song right now. It's the perfect driving around in the car song {even if I am cruising in my minivan}!!!!
My recent post Hangin Tough
Janine Huldie says
I know Erin and seriously is a great cruising song. Thanks for letting me know I am not the only one who enjoys this song!! 🙂
@LRConsiderer says
I have adored that song since it was released in the UK and it's definitely my summer fave this year
BUT
It's attracted a LOT of backlash. People (the anonymous 'them' who have an opinion to spout from their corner of dissent) are calling it 'rapey' and giving it a hard time.
RT and the others have been called on it, agreeing that the lyrics fly close to the line (no, they admit that they pretty much trash the line, to paraphrase "We're all married – who better to put this stuff out there and have fun with it?") but remain pretty damn unapologetic for what is (after all) an AwesomeRockin tune…
My recent post The grass is always greener on the same side
Janine Huldie says
I know it really is a awesome tune, yet such a controversial one for sure. That was why I had to guiltily admit here that yes I do like it, but kind of happy to know that you too enjoy it and again not just alone on this one!! 🙂
@LRConsiderer says
Not remotely. But yes – a conundrum to admit one likes…ach oh well 😀
My recent post The grass is always greener on the same side
Janine Huldie says
Total conundrum and now you see my dilemma in writing this. Oh well, I had a blast still!! 🙂
Michelle Liew says
I am watching a Kyra Sedgewick show now. Loved Footloose!

katbiggie says
You down with OPP? Holy moly, I heard the song on the radio yesterday, and based on the lyrics, I can only imagine how racy the video is. Who knew Robin Thicke could be so dirty??
My recent post Pin It! Tuesday {Pinterest Linkup}
Janine Huldie says
I know Alexa and this post wasn't for the faint of heart I suppose, but yes I couldn't help but love OPP back in the day. I grew up in Queens, NY and listened to Hot 97, which was all old school rap. Nowadays my tatses have mellowed, but every once in awhile a song like by Robin Thicke will bring out the inner rap lover in me!!
Billybuc says
You have now aged me, Janine. I have heard of none of these. Still, I do have songs that stay with me and are annoying and lovable at the same time. LOL Have a great day!
Janine Huldie says
Sorry about that Bill. I get yelled at all the time by Kevin not to listen to artists younger then I am, but damned if I will ever listen. Oh well that is what my stubborn streak gets me, lol!! But seriously thanks and you too have a great day now!!
Dana says
First of all, Eric from True Blood is divine – LOVE him! Blurred Lines is a catchy song, but once I looked up the lyrics I was glad that you can't understand most of them. Now OPP is a classic…
My recent post Twisted MixTape: The best kids’ TV theme songs
Janine Huldie says
Oh I know Eric really is quite divine in his own right (and love the way you described him). And I didn't even look up the lines yet, but will totally believe you on this. Just can't help, but like the beat and the sound. And oh yes, OPP is a huge classic!!
My recent post You Know Want it, You Know You Love It, Admit It!! It’s Okay!!

I like the song, but I guess I am so old, I don't understand why they can't leave things to the imagination!!
My recent post Honored And Inspired
Janine Huldie says
I know Michelle, but to me I have seen one naked person, I have seen them all I suppose. So I guess I desensitized at my age. However, I just can't get the song out of my head, but trust me watched the video once and have no desire to see it again. So definitely more about the song for me then the controversial video behind it.
realhousewife says
Wow that's funny Janine and enlightening too! My girls are 12 and 13 so hiding anything from them like the racy video is just exhausting. I can't believe what gets played on regular t.v. Anymore!
Janine Huldie says
I know Kelly it is crazy what gets played on regular TV, but since my girls are still so little I have to hide stuff like this still, but sure as they get older, I won't be able to!!
Kate says
Definitely a fun song to listen to while driving. I don't always hear new song because I drive so infrequently and that's the only time I listen to the radio, but this is one I like a lot!
My recent post Struggling with faith and family
Janine Huldie says
I know Katie, I love it when I am driving. Usually pump the radio up if I run errands and Kevin is watching the girls. Need music when I drive and this song definitely is a great tune to drive to!! 🙂
massholemommy says
Wait, he is Alan Thicke's son? I had no idea. We do that song in zumba and to say I'm sick of it is an understatement.
My recent post Twitter Observations
Janine Huldie says
I know crazy right and he also I believe has a brother, too. Both yes both are Alan Thicke's sons. And I guess if I heard it over and over working out, I too would most likely be tired of it by now!!
jenminn says
Oh God! RumpShaker! Hahaha! Thanks for the smile! And Robin Thicke shouldn't be allowed to be so sexy. Thanks for posting this to the Honest Mom link up so I could enjoy it! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
My pleasure in sharing this today Jen and I have to be honest I enjoyed writing this one up. I know Robin Thicke is kind of sexy in his own right, but the song seems to really be very catchy and can't help myself!!
notinjersey says
I don't think I know that song! yes I'm a little out of the loop.

Oh no worries, seriously had no clue that this was the same song as Kevin mentioned with it being a controversial video. So, I too live under a rock at times with stuff like this, too!
autumnrennie says
I had all the lyrics memorized to RumpShaker circa 6th grade. That will be in my head all day now. Thank you for the throwback!
Janine Huldie says
My pleasure with the throwback here and I know RumpShaker was and still a really good song!! 🙂
Naturally Educated says
I have too many guilty pleasure songs to count. Some involve (Joe McIntyre of New Kids on the Block). All the racy songs of the early 90's would make the list too! I had never heard the song in this post, nor did I have any idea that Alan Thicke has a famous son. It is catchy though!
Janine Huldie says
Yes to Joey McIntrye and totally admit that I had such a crush back in the day on him. Man, i even had a pillow case with his face on it!! I know crazy about Alan Thicke though and so happy to share this post and his song though!! 🙂
Amy Perdew says
Lol, my husband was joking around with me and decided the Robin Thicke would be a great song to sing to me. It reminds me of the "Put the Lime in the coconut" song. That is probably not the name of the song. The beat gets stuck in my head. Haha. I can not dance, unless it is Zumba then I got it. I am a huge music lover, so I am down with O.P.P….lmao. Oh, and I am with you on your linked post above with the videos. I give my kids electronics just to get a moment to myself sometimes.
Janine Huldie says
Amy, I can only imagine what I will hear later from KEvin about this. I truly left myself wide open, but seriously just couldn't resist!! And I know "Put the Lime in the coconut is definitely quite catchy and fun, too. Glad also it isn't just me with the kids getting electronic devices to keep them busy from time-to-time, too!! 🙂

Hahaha I remember the song OPP and now I have the chorus stuck in my head. I hadn't thought about it in years – what fun! Go Janine go 🙂

NuggetOnABudget says
Haha oh boy! The song is quite catchy and I must admit that I opted to watch the clean version even though Sofia is napping! I just feel dirty when I watch naked girls running around lol. Seriously all I could think of was Alan Thicke whenever they showed Robin! Thanks so much for linking up your post to the It's Okay series this week Janine! Now I'm going to listen to the song again…
My recent post it's okay…

I know trust me I had trouble and looked at that video just to purely see what the fuss was about, but like I commented earlier, I have listened to the song way more then I have now watched either video, because damn it is just a catchy tune! And my pleasure linking up and really meant it I had so much fun with this post!! 🙂 xoxo!!

Niki says
Who knew that Robin Thicke would have such a good song?!! It’s so catchy! And I love Rump Shaker and OPP! They take me back!
Janine Huldie says
I know Niki and I thought the same exact thing about this song. Seriously, I have never once liked any of his songs before so this one shocked me totally. And happy to take you back with me on OPP and Rump Shaker!! 🙂

OMG You are NOT alone with your crush on True Blood and Erik!!! And OMG I love that song too but what's up with the boobies??
Janine Huldie says
Kristi, I honestly love we still share the Eric crush, seriously he is so fine!! And I know the booties in that video are quite crazy, but the song is just too addictive for words!! 🙂
Kelly Blackwell says
I was working in nightclubs when OPP came out not to mention Rumpshaker, but I was actually more into bands like Nirvana, STP, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden to name a few. Whenever I hear songs like OPP I have vivid nightclub working memories and when I hear old stuff from Nirvana and the like, I am drawn back to my actual life rather than work life. Still…the fond memories of both are there. I have to pass on Thicke though. 😉 But cool for you to admit your change of heart.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks for sharing here Kelly. I too loved Nirvana and Alice and Chains. OPP was more the early 90s for me, while by the mid 90s and the end of high school, I was more into the grunge scene myself. So, I have memories from both types of music, just different types of memories. And trust me, I really never gave much thought to Robin Thicke, but this song I had to admit here that it got me!!
findingninee says
That song is seriously going to be stuck in my head all day. You're right – not the classiest of tunes, but really really catchy! And oh. Erik. Drool. GOd, he's amazingly hot.
Janine Huldie says
Seriously glad it isn't just me on both of these things and love you for confirming that, Kristi!!!! 🙂

I totally heard this song on a movie trailer recently and I LOVED it! I also couldn't get past the Growing Pains thing to listen but I do love Pharell, or what I know of him. Alan Thicke was also on a terrible show recently.. I can't remember what it was called but it was BAD BAD. Oh and thanks for linking up at the Ladies Only Blog Share Link Party! I came here to tell you that but I found myself quite taken by the song.

My pleasure in linking up and thank you for co-hosting. You are right and I like I said I have had trouble getting past the whole Alan Thicke connection. Didn't realize he was in another show recently, but for some reason I can totally imagine it was pretty bad and can't picture him doing anything worth watching nowadays. But this song really is so catchy that I just couldn't seem to resist!
ourhomeonderanged says
ohemgee! I just busted laughing out loud, because I love that song, and he was the featured performer on America's Got Talent last night. So I say to my husband, "I'm totally ashamed to admit it, but I love this song." As he's watching the performance he says, "Is this a new song? Cause it sounds old." I just laughed and laughed. So yes, my guilty pleasure, too.
