You’re My Home

Filed Under: Married Life Tagged With: Billy Joel, Classic Songs, marriage, You're My Home

Over the years, I have had my fair share of favorite songs and must admit one of my all-time favorites back in the day was November Rain, by Guns N’ Roses.

See during a really bad high school breakup, I listened to this song over and over.

In my twenties, I fell in the love with a few different songs that correlated to different relationships, as well as times of my life.

All these songs, when heard still bring me back.

But the one song that has stuck with me, was one that I found after I met my now husband.  We both had a joint love of Billy Joel and even saw him at Madison Square Garden in NYC, when he was in concert when we were first married.  Still ranks as one of the best concerts, I have ever attended.

Even before this concert though, like I said both Kevin and both loved listening to Billy Joel.  So much so that when we had to pick a song for our wedding video, we couldn’t help, but chose none other then Billy Joel’s, You’re My Home.

Billy Joel~My Favorite Artist of All-Time

The reason for choosing this song was not only, because it was indeed Billy Joel, but the lyrics truly spoke to both of us.

In my eyes, my husband is my home no ifs, ends or buts.  Doesn’t matter where we end up in this life, as long as we have one another, I know in my heart that everything will be Ok.

The song simply was, for me, everything that was good and pure about our relationship.  Even now, I hear this song still and am transported back to our wedding night, which is still one of the best nights of my life.  I also can’t help, but close my eyes and see Kevin smiling at me, when I listen to it now. The perfect song to define our relationship and still my favorite!

Our Wedding Night!!

Our Wedding Night!!

If you aren’t familiar with this song, see the lyrics below and also the included Youtube video to hear this truly romantic tune by one of the all time greats!

You’re My Home Lyrics

Artist: Billy Joel

When you look into my eyes
and you see the crazy gypsy in my soul
it always comes as a surprise
when i feel my withered roots begin to grow

well i never had a place
that I could call my very own
but that’s all right my love
cuz you’re my home.

when you touch my weary head
and you tell me everything will be all right
You say use my body for your bed
and my love will keep you warm throughout the night

well i’ll never be a stranger
and i’ll never be alone
wherever we’re together
that’s my home.

Home could be the Pennsylvania turnpike
Indiana’s early morning dew
high up in the hills of California
home is just another word for you

Well I never had a place that i could call my very own
but that’s all right my love cuz you’re my home

If i travel all my life
and i never get stop and settle down
long as i have you by my side
there’s a roof above and good walls all around
you’re my castle, you’re my cabin
and my instant pleasure dome
i need you in my house
cuz you’re my home,..
you’re my home.

This was originally written for the October Daily challenge back in October 2013, but edited it for this week’s Finish the Sentence Friday with Finding Ninee with the sentence to finish, “When I think about home…”.

Leslie, we saw him the winter gift after we got married, so it had to be February of 2007. Kevin's brother gifted the whole family tickets for Christmas and I know we were just newly married. Still remember that being the best concert ever (and I have been to quite a few), but this really was the absolute best and would see him again in a heartbeat!! 🙂

I saw Billy Joel live a few years ago in Boston. I don't think he played this, but I don't know it well, which is strange. I thought I was more savvy. Billy Joel – he really has a way with words.

Glad you are listening to it now and I know he doesn't play it often now, but we were actually lucky enough that he did play it at the show Kevin and went to at MSG in NYC. So, I was never so happy to actually here it live and in person 🙂
