Everyday my inbox gets cluttered with e-mails. Even though recently I went through and tried to minimize this, I still get a few different companies that I am fond of e-mailing me daily with their newsletters, because I like to check them out when I can.
However over the holidays it was relatively quiet, but on one of the first days back from the holiday slump, I received an e-mail from Byrdie, which I actually signed up for when I received the Byrdie GLOSSYBOX, back late last year.
Byrdie is truly as they say for all things beauty, which as many know is a passion of mine.
The article that caught my eye on this day in particular definitely brought me back to my younger days and was titled, “From Hard Candy to Caboodles, the ‘90s Beauty Essentials We Couldn’t Live Without”.
I took a quick look and noticed quite a few products that I had back in the day and thought it would be fun to open up the discussion here today as to which ones I owned, as well as which ones my readers possibly owned, too that we thought would help us make it to the head of our class! I know many that read and share with me are around my age or just a bit older or younger, so again thought many could relate to this.
Here is the list of products that Byrdie shared:
- Clinique Lipstick
- Sun-In Tropical Hair Lightener
- Sea Breeze, Fresh Clean Astringent
- LA Looks Hair Gel
- Bonne Bell Lip Smackers
- Herbal Essences Shampoo
- Aqua Net Hair Spray
- Liz Claiborne Perfume
- Noxzema
- Caboodles
- Calvin Klein CK One
- Chanel, Le Vernis Nail Polish
I have to admit here and now that I owned so many of these products on this list. Yes, I was in high school and then college in the 90s.
And all the cool kids used Noxzema and still remember the commercials for it. Just so you know, I so wanted pimples to be able to use Noxzema to clear my skin up like it supposedly did for Rebecca Gayheart, because it was so the in thing.
Nowadays, I swear I still get some acne and not so happy about it as I thought I would be supposedly back then.
And come on Aqua Net! Seriously, I had the big hair (probably why I guiltily admit that I love the movie Rock of Ages!) back then to totally prove it and this was totally before I found a straightening iron to tame my thick, wavy mop!
Yes, I seriously also rocked the CK One back as a freshman in high school. Still remember that little opaque cologne bottle.
Oh and by the way I definitely owned a Caboodle. It was pink, purple and teal (my favorite colors) and it sat on top of my brass and glass vanity table (seriously I owned a vanity table that I could put my makeup on at). I even owned the white and pink Caboodle for nails, too!
And last, but not least and certainly my favorite of all these was Chanel’s nail polish. I swear in my college days, I actually got my nails done with acrylic. The longer the better. I even had someone once ask me how I cleaned myself (down there) with my nails that long (TMI, but still a funny story). Not sure what was going through this person’s mind or why they had to ask that one, but still totally remember that (the things my mind does remember kind of scary I know!). I owned Chanel shade called vamp and actually still have the bottle (that is pretty much empty), but still couldn’t throw it away, because it was always my favorite (probably why I loved the Nails Inc Victoria polish I received here).
Chanel Vamp – Still My Favorite Nail Color So Many Years Later (and my nails back then were much, much longer)!I was totally just that cool (not!) and definitely can remember so much of this as though it was yesterday!
But seriously, I still love NKOTB (way before Donnie was giving mouth-to-mouth this past New Year’s to Jenny McCarthy at New Year’s Rockin’ Eve!) and will watch 90210 reruns from the early 90s (when Brenda and Dylan were an item!), just because I can so no surprise here!
But since I shared my 90s loves and bared a bit of myself for all today, please share yours in the comments with me.
Seriously, just can’t wait to hear from you on this.

I laughed when I saw this. My sister STILL has her orginal Caboodle from the late 80's or early 90's. I don't think she will ever get rid of it.

Robin, I loved both of my Caboodles and just wish I knew what happened to mine. I don't think I would have thrown them out and either are in my old bedroom closet or up in my parents' attic. Now, you have me wondering!! 🙂
dishofdailylife says
Those names definitely brought back memories, especially Noxzema and AquaNet! I never had a Caboodle though. I'm not even sure what it is really. Maybe I'm a few years off?

I know totally brought back tons of memories for me and the Caboodles not sure, but was totally and insanely popular when I was a teen in the early 90s. Robin now has me wishing I still had mine, but still so many of my friends had one and was so excited when I finally got one back in the day 🙂

It's hilarious to me that Noxema was so the in thing (I remember that and I used it too) because truthfully it didn't smell so fantastic. 🙂 This is a fun post!

I know Noxema was totally the in thing back then and you are so right and had almost forgotten the smell until you reminded me here 🙂

I forgot about Sea Breeze! I still remember the commercial song, too "Beautiful skin can be a breeze with Sea Breeze" or something! Ha. Also, I loved (like really really loved) CK One. So yummy smelling. Do they even sell Aqua Net any longer? Wasn't it responsible for global warming? Fun post, Janine! Thanks for the memories!

I totally remember that song and so loved the smell of CK One, too. As for Aqua Net, I don't think they sell the aerosol cans anymore, but wonder if they still sell it in a different form. Definitely need to look that up now!! 🙂

All of this! My sister still has her Caboodle. My mom probably still has mine in the basement. And I think about Sun-In every now and then. I never had the guts because I have such dark hair that I thought I would look so obvious if I bleached it.
By the way, I STILL use Noxema. I swear by it.
My recent post Something So Simple.

I am seriously trying to figure what happened to both of mine now, because I don't think I would have thrown them out, but so not sure. Oh and the sun-in, I was a complete chicken and was so afraid my hair would turn green or something, so I never ended up using it!! 🙂
@katbiggie says
Loved, loved, loved my caboodle! And yes, I had most of those things. No Chanel for me, but most of the other stuff!!
Janine Huldie says
Chanel, was only when I had my own money from working when I was around 19 or 20, but still I had so many of the others, too that I had to share and I absolutely hearted my Caboodle, too 🙂

Ummm….I still use SeaBreeze and Noxema!!! And Herbal Essence – love it!!!
I did have a Caboodle – not sure what happened to it!!!
We used to just put lemon juice in our hair and lay on foil with baby oil all over – classy!!

I tried lemon juice, too and it never did work for me the way I wanted it, but like I said in a previous comment, I was afraid of sun-in and totally thought I would turn my hair green or something! Loving hearing all the memories here today though and thank you for sharing with me!! 🙂

Hi Janine, long time! I didn't read this post, I'm just using comments to tell you I've been dangerously ill in hospital, with an infection in my left leg which spread – kidney collapse, dehidration, antibioticas, etc. Can't walk, musn't put my left foot on the ground. Health system is sending a crutch. The great thing is that as a Senior citizen I didn't pay a cent and am receiving most of my medications free also. We have a lot of benefits but as a developing country they are a bit slow. I was in the public system for the first time in my life and the people really know their jobs and do them well. Very harsh, though it was not pleasant. Not used to being in a public dorm, etc.I even spent 4 days in Intensive Treatment section, quite an experience! Can use computer for short periods, but I'm getting stronger, at home and more comfortable. My poor blogs have gone to rack and ruin! Saw the Pinterest hop, want to try it, but can't yet! See you!
Janine Huldie says
Joan, have totally missed you and so sorry that you haven't been well. Definitely, keeping you in my thoughts and prayers now that I do know what is going on with you. When you are feeling better, I do hope you will totally link up with both of my Pinterest Hops that I share here weekly and look forward to it. Wishing you a great rest of the day and sending virtue hugs your way 🙂

I still have my caboodle, it's in my closet. It's sad, but it still has my old hair stuff in it (old hair pins, clips, scrunchies). I need to throw all that old stuff away, but I've just put it on a shelf in my closet.

This is hilarious because I remember my older cousin who was in high school in the 90s using Noxema. I tried it once and I just didn't like it, once I started getting pimples. The other stuff I didn't use. I've heard of CK One, though. 🙂
